  • WASD Instant Ban

If WASD is causing the lag, can we set something up where if you use those damn keys, you are automatically banned, or maybe, one warning then your character is booted? I just died for the sixth time in three days due to lag. I usually do OK against the Goblins, but not with lag......hit, hit, hit, dead, lag gone.

I have a bard, not the toughest, but I made him for RP and he will do well at higher levels, so I can't just wade in and kill like some fighters and such...........so the lag is critical. I am not asking for way too many levels or anything, damn, I have been trying to make 4th level forever now, and seem to just go backwards.

Last night, I was involved in an RP and it was a lot of fun, but, the lag beast hit, I died and respawned before anybody could help, and I actually lost XP during the RP...I didn't get any XP for this event. I am not complaining, it was mostly the lagging at fault.

It is just very frustrating when you can't even make it to 4th level. I have been in parties, but every party I was in, we received 5 XP for most stuff we killed, so it was actually worse to be in a party.

Just my two cents..............get rid of the people using the WASD keys!

WASD keys are not the only cause. Some people have crappy internets and such that cause it. According to one source, people having slow internet connections can actually lag everyone.

My experience last night was it was mostly lag free while I was on doing things. Certain people joining would lag the server, and when they disconnected, the lag would be fine.

It was recommended by an authoritative source that we should setup a boot everyone tool that warns people a minute before it boots. Apparently booting people and making everyone login again helps lag a great deal. I do know kicking the people who cause the lag does help.

Banning them seems a bit harsh. I use click all the time whenever i remember, but when im running for my life, i usually forget and use WSAD.. I try to send constant reminders to players however, but yeah, banning? A bit harsh..

        New and a clicker

Howdy. I got onto to Sundren for the first time today, and it seems great. The maps are wonderful, and NPC details are superb.

I noticed that lag went from extreme to non-existant, and it correlated to players logging on and off. I have never used wasd movement in NWN or NWN2.
This is the best signature I could think of.

I'm probably on one of the 'crapy nternet'lines at the moment, because I'm up here in Alasa (bad internet to start), and using a hostels's wireless on top of that.
I really hope I'm not adding to the lag over time. Some ds It's actually fine. Others it's horrible.

Asfor an autoban for using the keys? A tad extreme. The person could be an uniformed non-forum reading random new player, or just using the a ior d keyy to not look silly talking to someone 'behind thier back'.
There's a thin line between the definition of genius and insanity; I cross it all the time.

            tapping keys to turn

Tapping keys several times to turn around does not cause lag. Holding keys down does.
This is the best signature I could think of.

Well, I am far from being an expert in such a thing, but maybe it is caused by some scripts. I now that persistence scripts could cause lag if not correctly optimized. At leat it was true in nwn 1. By optimized, I mean a script that sends less requests for the same result.

I know that using inventary objets to store character location (ex : being able to return to the location of before the reboot) may be extremely laggy.

The Sundren team has years of experience with modding and PWs, our scripts have all been tested and optimized, nothing script-related on our server is causing any lag. The problem lies within several key bugs in NWN2 that can cause packet flooding.
The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.

My mistake, from all the posts concerning WASD, I was under the impression that was the primary reason for the current lag.

Also, the instant ban is unrealistic, but some other punishment, such as I specified like booting a players character, letting him know he was using the keys and should not. The player of courses could come back into the game, but the boot would be a reminder.

Anyway, just a suggestion and sorry I put this in the wrong spot.
