Well I unfortuantly haven't been in many DM events (damn you time schedual!) so I can't say what is good or bad.

But I can say what I like and why I react as I do.

I like quests where its thinking. Of course my old Character was the epitome of smashing his problems. Jag didn't think far beyond "Well I smashed it, I'm done" or "Its too hard to smash so I run away."

My new Character doesn't think on those lines at all. Tollin doesn't fight for fighting. He fights because usually things want to kill him. What he does do is explore. He likes to see new places and new things. Unfortuantly most new places involve lots of monsters trying to kill him. But if confronted with a problem he isn't likely to go "I Smash!". He's more liekely to go. "What's this guy's/monster's/devil's/thing's angle and how can I manipulate it to my benefit" for most things due to his cut throat merchant upbringing. Though occaisionally (Say seeing the alhoon) it will be "AAAAAAAAH! RUN AWAY!". Tollin is also CN not because he like to flaunt authority, but because he tyends to avoid places where his actions are limitted by laws. He spends his days in the woods (Which is why he has some survival skills. And healing. And eventually spot or listen). And he has nothing against those who are evil (Though he prefers to avoid them because evil is more likely to try and screw you over). In fact he has worked for Zhentarim merchants guarding caravans. And as a sailor on a Thayan ship. And many other odd jobs that allow him to travel to far off places.

when I run pick up DM events I tend to come up with little mysteries and such for the players to solve, sometimes they have to do a lot of fighting to get to the clues, and sometimes I've made my pick up games go over several sessions. Most of the time players want to be challenged without being totally burned, though sometimes I've killed all the players but one...and then had that player do something or promise something to save the others...those are fun.

Of course this was in NWN1 using the DMFI rods which made the whole DM'ing thing a heck of a lot easier.
