Good to hear. I might also sugest something like changing recipie books to say something like "essence of imp's horn" when a faint fire essence is needed or the like. It wouldn't necisarily require the specific creature, but it would add another RP factor to crafting and enchanting.

Crafting Ho!
As long as a Roleplaying frame of mind stays in it all, I personally can't see how crafting however advanced it is could effect RP.
It seems perfectly logical for a well travelled wizard, who has endured a great deal of trauma and fights in his/her/Politically-Correct-Reference life has tought them a great deal about the ways of magic and have come accross some truly remarkable artefacts in their life and through study and knowledge have become one of the finest Enchanters in the district, but at a cost.
Or a well versed Warrior, master of the arts of combat has always had a boon with metal and the blade and has tevoted his life to Fighting, Blade Making, and porn.
I think limitless potential is a great idea. Don't hard limit people, but allow those who are willing to work hard and Rolplay well (i dunnow, maybe have to do a deal with a Devil in order to obtain a Radiant Power Essence, or search far and wide to find a rumoured vein of Admantium) to be rewarded. I'm not saying overpower but like you said, a good balance will make it all slot in nicely.
Although, I'm not sure the XP cost for Crafting or Enchanting is good. It seems a bit crazy that being a master of Weaponsmithing should come at a cost of Experience and skill (potentially).Calini Anna'Des - Resentful of the Law's values and troubled with her Past.
