  • Experience Curve

    Now I know the reasons why the curve was increased for most or all of the older characters on the server, those reasons should be understandable to everyone.

    My gripe is what the hell is with changing the deduction rate from around 1500 to 400? Are we suppose to wait 5 - 9 months before we can level up our characters?

    Granted some characters are extremely high in level but by doing this the Server is giving domination too a group of players, over many players, so in the end there is an inbalance of power.

    RP reasons for leveling are more or less so you can challange people and yes Character Conflict between other characters is ROLE PLAY otherwise list Sundren under Socializing.

    DM RP events cannot be made for all groups of people because their is always one or two who have an extremely high level and pretty much take charge.

    Not only that, but how are you ment to converse with people, using the dmfi tool when you have say... 5 in Lore, someone 5 - 10 levels higher has 10 - 15 +.

    I ask that the deduction on the EXP curve is changed so it is more like the way it use to be, this is rediculous.

    People come on, no one to RP with, you go kill stuff with no gain.

    Thank you for bringing this to the Sundren staff's attention. I believe this is a serious issue that could have an adverse effect on game play for everyone. I'm going to talk this over with the other developers and try to find a reasonable fix. I'm also moving this to the suggestions board.
    Sunder me? Sunder you!

      The deduction, I believe, should be around 1300/24 hours, can someone verify this as not being the case?

      As for the frustration, I can understand your concerns with progress. However, the decision to leave the experience as is was not done for harming the playerbase. It is due to the fact we have alot of development left to accomplish before the server is considered completely ready for players. Just to give you an idea:

      * Full Quest System (With possible custom UI)
      * Area Rebalancing
      * Crafting and Enchanting
      * TONS AND TONS of areas left to implement, etc
      * Loot system rebalancing
      Much much more.

      My todo list and bug list has 30 - 40 items in it.

      Progression being slowed right now helps our development and balance. This was kind of the trade off of not wiping the vault.

      The decision makers are considering altering the experience system to other methods, however, we ask that you bear with us as the 5% gains is likely to be temporary from what I understand. If a decision is made to leave it as is, there may be many reasons for that. Remember, once quests are in, there will be experience rewards for those, so we have to evaluate the effect of that experience with levelling.

        Eh... I don't mind the xp gain at all. lets me stay back and RP, and i find alot of RP usually. I don't see why everyone needs to go slaughter monsters, its not like theres even any new areas out. And DM events will be fun enough for me.

          Hey wait a minute, I do. I need to slay monsters to get more gold, so I can buy more stuff to slay more monsters to get more gold, so I can buy more stuff to slay more monsters to get more gold, so I can buy more stuff to slay more monsters to get more gold, so I can buy more stuff to slay more monsters to get more gold, so I can...

          Honestly, I think for many of us who are above 10th level, it's not an issue. When you get around to it, we'll still be here.

            It's not a priority to redo the experience system if it's going to happen. I've given priorities in another thread. I'm fairly certain quests is the highest priority right now and loot related things.

              I can't see the problem actually with gaining a little less experience.. Is there a need to be the highest level or the best character? Isn't this server about having all the fun comming from the roleplaying?
              And as GBX said, there's a lot of things more important than this at hand, but we'll listen and consider all suggestions, of course.

                Okay, thank you Godbeast for that explanation. What you said makes sence and now I'am not fussed about it.

                Short term loss, long term gain right?

                And yes, their is a need to gain levels to keep the so called balance of power, so the same people arent on top of the food chain, so certain classes at low levels won't be so vulnerable.

                Also, what Myrddin said, money is the currency. When crafting comes along ((hopefuly)) Money will be important. When new areas open up which I could imagine will be challanging, good items will help you succed.

                Character conversations can or perhaps, should involve the dmfi tool based on the rolls of skills stats etc. With that being said, higher level means higher rolls. I believe, like single player, some quests should not open entirely unless you roll a high enough conversation skill, (Taunt, intimidat, diplomacy) etc.

                Leveling up is essential to character building which is a part of role play. As Esteten said, fun from Role playing.. not being able to defeat the nessecary evils over and over is somewhat boring after awhile, agreed though evil should win, but so should good and it shouldn't be left up to the same players all the time to save everyone or create conflict.

                Again, thank you for reading my post and presenting the idea behind this change.

                Now knowing this, I can wait.

                  Glad we got that sorted out for you, and I do see the points that are made about equallity and such, but isn't this how it is real life aswell?

                    If I had any sort of say in these matters, I would remove exp gain from monster killing entirely, and only use it as a quest reward.

                      Oh a hardcore proposal! It'd be nice but I'm afraid that there'd be alot of player who would leave :/

                        Speaking on behalf of those in unusual timezones... I'm rarely on where there are DMs, and I doubt any of my characters would ever have got past level 3 if this was the case, despite the fact that I do plenty o' RPing
                        I got one leg missin'
                        How do I get around?

                          Of course it would not work unless the DM-to-player ratio was different

                            I'm not against making quests the only way to gain experience, but we'd need enough to fill in every level ^_^ It would definitely slow grinding on monsters. It's not my choice though, hurrah!

                              I'd l ove DM XP Only, but *shrug..* Lots of people don't like it. Im not sure about 'Everyone would leave" however. A new server is hardcore and its no monster xp and its quite loaded. And yeah, we'd need more DM's i suppose. Sundren had loads of DM's a while ago.
