  • Speaking with the dead...

I was just thinking the following :
Some classes could be able to speak with the dead, especially spirit shamans, clerics and palemasters. Those classes should be able to go to the forest of eternal nights, speak with the spirits of the dead and come back.

This way, good/neutral clerics and shamans could ask the characters about what killed them and the location of their corpses. Palemasters and evil necromancers could make some deals with the dead. Something like: "I may raise you but you will have to do something for me"
or "tell me what i want to know or i will make sure that you regret that for eternity.".

My character Jaden is actually built around this concept, but I got the boot as far as trying it out,lol
    Characters:
Peridan Twilight, one-eyed dog of the Legion, deceased.
Daniel Nobody, adventurer and part time problem solver.

    [DM] Poltergeist :
If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge an intermediate deity's unbridled fury.

We have very limited resources with NWN2, and must make everything count. Spawning every dead creature in a forest is simply not an option.

It is, however, possible to make some unique creatures this way, perhaps a quest line and an area used by DM's if they want the players to talk to unique "echoes" of creatures that were slain.

Very possible, and at the same time, impossible.

I do not know if this is currently on the to-do list, but we will start adding content very soon, and your suggestion is very much appreciated

I was not talking about spawning creatures in the forest. I was talking about going to the forest to speak with dead PCs.

Maybe it could happen during a DM run event, but I wouldn't think being allowed to just roll for spot or listen or somesuch

This might be possible; it could work like the map points that only allow certain people in (Drow Camp, Elven Fort, etc). Once the appropriate character reaches a certain level, they can be granted access to that map. The downside would be getting back out; perhaps a custom script from the NPC there that toggles if the character hasn't been "flagged" as dead?

Now, while I think that sounds easy, it may not be....calling someone who knows that they're doing!
            Don't run...you'll only die tired.

Well, adding a variable to flag/not flag as dead isn't difficult at all, but if the person has control enough of their character to 'speak', couldn't the same thing be accomplished with a bit of roleplay in tells? Unless it would be more than one person speaking with the dead, though I doubt that'd be likely, outside of DM events.
