  • Stupid Suggestion XI - Knowledge

Hey there. I'm not sure about other classes, but Clerics of Nature deities are supposed to have access to Knowledge (nature) and Clerics of Knowledge deities are supposed to have to all Knowledge skills.

While there are ways to get around this (e.g. taking a level of Bard) I'm not overly fond of taking classes that don't make sense, and don't think others should be forced to either.

Of course...I can't guarantee allowing Clerics to place their already sparse skill points into rarely useful non-combat skills won't upset the cosmic balance in some terrifying way but meh. Anyway, thanks for considering!

As usual, feel free to bash the crap out of this idea if you are so inclined

Off the top of my head skill assignments are down to the class(es) of the character and aren't effected by things like Domains. Though, if I'm wrong feel free to correct me on that.

A shame, because skills are one of those things that can add a lot of flavour to a build. Unfortunatly the primary work around would be to make an individual cleric class for every deity, something that's extremely unlikely to happen.

Giving domains SKill Focus feats might give them a little headstart, but doesn't allow lower cost investment in the skills (and won't work at all for any skills that require training).

Nice idea, but I can't think of any simple, practical way of implementing it.

What you could do, Doubtful, is commit fully to the Pathfinder thing.

Pathfinder: All skills cost 1 point per rank. You get 1 point at each level, including first level. Class skills gain +4 ranks as soon as at least 1 point is invested in them.

Of course, this dramatically reduces the divide between class and non class skills.

Not all of this would be translatable to NWN2, though. You could make all skills Class Skills, and then give classes a bonus to their "class skills." I doubt you could get rid of the x4 thing at first level, and I don't think you could make the bonus +4 ranks only take effect after an investment.

Mmm, that could work. We're certainly using Pathfinder for a lot of stuff.

Lotus is the one elbow deep in class stuff, let's see if he has a view to share on it.

Oops...what I was actually suggesting was adding Knowledge as a class skill to all Clerics as a workaround.

          Sorry if that wasn't obvious!

Whilst that would also allow some Clerics to have Knowledge they shouldn't have, I think it's unlikely someone is going to sink 100 skill points (what Cleric even has that many SP anyway?!) into Knowledge skills unless they are a priest of a Knowledge deity...

EDIT: Also, what Rekov suggested would completely resolve the issue, and would make it easier to make more diverse characters....Lute playing Fighters and Paladins with a thorough Knowledge of politics etc
