  • Disarm and Improved Disarm

Simple suggestion: Don't use it in pvp, please. It's been discussed before on the forums- at length. We all know it's bugged, we all know it runs a really high risk of destroying a player's weapon.

If you don't actually know, there it is: It's bugged. It runs a real high risk of destroying your opponent's weapon.

Agreed, we all work too hard to lose a weapon for good.!

      Ah, Disarm....

Last time this came up a few people got all upset about the slightly hyperbolic language I used in jest. In order not to upset the precious little cupcakes again I'll attempt to avoid the use of humour or personality from this point forward.

Uses of disarm that result in weapons being destroyed are in fact very rare. It stems from three possible causes:
1, Blueprints - The weapon blueprint doesn't have it's droppable state flag set correctly and is then destroyed rather than dropped.
2, Landscaping / Mapping - Very rarely, and often in very tight quarters or in areas with small walkable areas, the engine will place the disarmed weapon on the floor somewhere unreachable or not visible.
3, Inventory - If a player with Improved Disarm has a full inventory the engine will destroy the item rather than dropping it.

If you're the unfortunate victim of circumstance and suffer the destruction of a weapon then, well, that sucks. But there is a solution!

All you need to do then is simply snap a screenshot, make a thread in Help Requests explaining what happened and as soon as possible a DM will get to you with a replacement weapon with the flag states set correctly.

In the mean time, if you've been unfortunate enough to loose a weapon to Disarm is let us know what weapon it was. Most of the blueprints have been updated to be droppable but there's always the chance some were missed, or that older player crafted weapons (built before the tag updates) are considered non disarmable. If we know where the weapons with issues are coming from (public store, faction store, crafted, etc) we can check those and related blueprints for problems.

If you want an existing old weapon's flags checked just ask a DM in game.

To sumerise the staff stance I'll quote Lotus.

Remember that you are not entitled to keep an opponent's item unless you actually win the PvP (that is, you subdue or mechanically kill them). That means if you disarm someone, neither you nor anyone else present save the disarmed PC has a right to collect the item from the ground. Common sense rules here: if an obviously allied PC picks up his friend's dropped sword, that's obviously okay.

If the disarmed PC escapes, quietly and OOC return the item. If you defeat the disarmed party (via subdual or mechanical death), you have a right to one item from that PC's inventory and may choose to keep the disarmed item or return it in favor of choosing something else (or, if you're classy like me, decline to take anything).

The exception to the above is Improved Disarm used by an empty-handed PC, which places the weapon in the Disarming PC's inventory. If victorious, you may choose to keep that item, but otherwise, quietly return it.

If you are disarmed and your weapon disappears, take a screenshot, file a Help Request, and we'll take care of it.

I hope that goes some way toward sorting things out.

Yep Doubt this helps quite a bit. I know I wasn't aware of the mechanics involved. thanks!
