Hey, just a heads up to whoever re-did Argyle, the Ring of Wizardry II that drops there is one of the old style ones not the new ones purchasable in stores. Not sure if it drops from creatures or a barrel, and maybe it's intentional but I doubt it in such a high level area!

Also, Reflex saves of +20 to +25 on creatures is a bit discouraging to spellcasters. Those creatures already have spell resistance, immunity to electricity, resistance to most elements. Our DC's max out at ~26 so with Evasion (which they also have!) they literally have 95% chance to resist area spells on top of all that.

To put it in perspective, here is an example of a creature with +24 Reflex save :P

From my understanding, Argyle Keep is designed for a full party, consisting of at least 1 buffer, 1 physical-adept, and 1 rogue. The resistances make the NPCs hardy against spells, but spell-casters and their ability to provide the mundanes with resistance buffs is rather critical for surviving the area. The rogue is required for the traps, but unfortunately not all the traps are disarm-able, regardless of disable-device ranks. Protection from Energy, Energy Immunity (Electricity), or Evasion and a high reflex save is all but requisite for the upper floors. The physical damage dealer (with sword or ranged or whatever) then goes and whacks people in the face to deal the damages.

Overall, form my observation, it seems to be one of the more party-balanced endgame areas. If your trying to solo, your probably doing something wrong.

As for comparisons to P&P mobs, the DMs can't really tweak the monsters to the players running through, and we have some silly PCs that run on this server.

Farmed that place from level 9-15 which took about 3-4 days. As a wizard. lol

Soloing that place is no issue.

Argyle exterior? certainly. The Village, Graveyard, and Temple are all staples of mid-range leveling.

I refer to Argyle Keep, as does thaelis, from my understanding.
If you have yet to encounter the Deadly Electrical Traps <read "Lightning from the Walls">, you are likely not in the correct place.

Sorry, but soloing Argyle KEEP at level 9, that is just bullshit. No matter how you powerbuilt your mage that is not possible. My 20th level mage can have his ass handed to him if he doesn't pay attention and/or doesn't use cheese (Shapechage, Buffed Death Knight etc).

Anyway, I wasn't arguing that it's too hard to solo. I hate soloing. I just happen to be alone on the server the vast majority of the time.

Regardless of whether you're in a party or not, it's significantly tougher than Mossdale but provides much less XP.

Level 3 wizard spell - disrupt greater undead. Throw in some protection from arrows, a ghostly visage, and a shield or two, and that's all it takes. The melee ones can be completely waltzed through a wall of fire 4-5 times before it dissipates.

No bullshit necessary. Just obviously don't take on the smith or the other crazy difficult ones. Inside the church area where the flag spawns is obviously off-limits too. Unless you're talking about some deeper, much more difficult area that I haven't been in. But my personal testimony stands at being able to own mobs at level 9 in that place. No powerbuilding done either.

The misunderstanding here appears to stem from a misassociation of the name.

Argyle Village, Cemetery, and the Desecrated Temple are staples for characters between level 7 and around 15. and consists of possessed villagers(Boss: the Smith), demonic undead(Boss: Emissary of Orcus), and possessed monks(Boss: Shadow-demon) and such respectively.

Argyle Keep, and the associated Argyle Gatehouse if I recall, is designed for a much higher level and is rarely visited due to its difficulty and how far out of the way it is. The unit-dispersion consists of possessed hounds of white, green, and blue varieties, many possessed archers, possessed Corporals and guardsmen, and a red-named succubi with the name "The Mistress" (among others, such as the blue-named Cook with a rolling pin ). These are the NPCs with the stats mentioned in the OP.

All of these, in addition to Argyle Tower and Argyle Fields, are technically part of the "Argyle Keep" collection of maps, hence the confusion. However, Thaelis continues to refer to the actual keep and not the region in general.

                  Hopefully this explains the schism.

The keep itself is a great challenge, I love it. Bloodyredjack and I took our myrkulites there a few months back (both level 20), and we struggled. Not the bad sort but it was the most fun I have had in a long time, took everything we had to survive. I agree that it would be a bit discouraging if you relied on evocation (seems under powered anyway) or other spells that that required saves. I think the best thing that could happen from this point is that you made the suggestion, and hopefully staff will look over it and review.

Evocation is underpowered and will be addressed at some point. I've been working through stuff in the toolset lately, and I'm hopeful I can get to this in a somewhat timely manner.

I can only recall at one time getting to the second floor of the keep, and it was a blind run for all of us.

Half-hilarity and half-anxiety hit when one of our Triad mooks decided to try and smash down a locked door, a lightning trap set off, and obliterated half of the party. Thresh, of course, survived the ordeal if only because the dice gods wanted someone conscious to scream at them afterwards. Good times. Would love to see the end of it sometime, though.

The upper-keep itself is, unfortunately, uncompleted. I believe that our illustrious Toupon was working on doing so, but I've not heard any updates in some time. The courtyard and gatehouse are populated, but the upper keep is unfortunately devoid of habitation. It still makes for a most appreciable sence of accomplishment managing to get up there and see the view.

On the flip side: the gatehouse is definitely one of those places you want a trapmonkey.

I second that! The hilarious notes lying around seemed to hint at a Master of the Tower, so I was expecting a Boss-To-End-All-Bosses at the top of the climb.
