  • A New PrC - Warslinger

I know the staff is very busy keeping the content of this server head and shoulders above any other persistent world (not that I have checked many out).

Perhaps in the future you could consider this PrC. I love to play Hins and I particularly like to play a Warslinger. This PrC formalizes the class.

Warslinger: An expert in the use of the sling, a weapon commonly associated with the Halfling race. Among the Hin, these individuals are known by their proper name, and are often accorded great respect. To nearly everyone else, however, these sharpshooters are known as "those damned slingers!" or by even more colorful epithets. While some Warslingers do actually sell their talents to those wishing to dispose of their enemies, most are not professional mercenaries but rather highly skilled specialists who use their skills to help protect their communities or improve their chances of adventuring successfully. A number of Warslingers remain with their family most of their lives, imparting their superlative skills to the young.

Fighters, monks and rogues are the most common practitioners of the War Sling. Some barbarians and rangers, particularly those fighting for a partisan cause or engaged in the protracted defense of the homeland; find the Warslinger’s talents highly useful in their work. The occasional druid or cleric may adopt this path of study if it seems to support or compliment her religious beliefs and practices. Wizards seldom sacrifice the benefits of additional spells to take up this path.
The art of the sling is often passed from generation to generation, particularly among the Lightfoot Hin. This strong familial association is perhaps the reason that Warslingers are found more frequently among the Lightfoot Halflings than the Stronghearts. Warslingers are not unknown among the Stronghearts Hin, but generally these sub races prefer different sorts of ranged weapons. A small gathering of Warslingers sometimes cooperates to undertake a joint mission, and at least a few wandering Lightfoot communities boast small military units of Warslingers.

Its cool. I like the idea, sadly I do not know if it would be viable in the NWN engine. My only suggestion would be to raise the BA requirement to +6. Most PRCs cant be accessed until after this point. There is mechanical reasons behind it, that I can not remember off hand, but the are in the DMG under class creation/alterations. I would look, but I am on campus today, and don't have access to the books at the moment.

i made a fighter dd and used a sling and I would take that class over this anyday. and there is no race requirement, which imho do not belong in the game.

If incorporated, I demand you create a character named "Dennis the Menace" to RP this class to the true effect.

I'm unsure about the ability to add some of those features in game, a shame as it is an interesting class.

At this point though I think we're focusing on completing in progress and outstanding features rather than adding in new ones.

Still, no harm in planning for the future!

The richochet shot may be implementable if used in tandem with the secondary target feature that was added in a previous update, but that's just me trying to be helpful. No idea if it could really work, and I'll be honest, slings really suck in NWN2. I've got a halfling fighter who specializes in slings, and even with fighter, slings are straight up crap compared to almost every other ranged weapon you could use. I like slings, and I like my halfling fighter, but I'm being honest, slings are crap in NWN2.
Tigen Amastacia: Died in events so you didn't have to.

Quintin Ulsteris: Nice-guy Legion engineer, deceased son of House Ulsteris.

Clandriel Cain: AKA "Fire-eyes" AKA "Demon hunter" AKA "OH MY GOD, WHY IS HE STILL STABBING ME!!??"

The availability of quality slings is a real issue, I agree. In Sundren, with access to enchanted ammunition and the possibility of getting an enchanted sling, these weapons can amass some pretty capable damage. The slinger gets all of the advantages of a ranged weapon feats... but can still use a shield. This is a major advantage over a bow.

I just really enjoy the RP value of a Warslinger. They are fun to play and are real capable support players. Add some levels of rogue and they could add some varied skills to any party.

I realize the staff is focused on higher priority mods and fully respect that. Perhaps someone will dust this PrC idea off in the distant future and consider it when the demand signal isn't so high.

I love the idea of making some of the under-represented weapons more viable. Slings, spears, staves and to a lesser extent daggers (NOT kukris, regular daggers) spring to mind.

I think a feat or two for each weapon would be a little easier to implement than an entire class though, considering probably only a handful of players would choose these paths. But...I might be biased since spears are my thing

EDIT: Actually, didn't Lotus or someone give spears/halberds extra reach a while back? I'd forgotten that! *makes a Spear Saint*
