  • Trickster

    Hello guys!

I come up with this suggestion, let's see what do you think about it.

Prestige class Arcane trickster, ability to sneak attack in spells that's neeed ranged or melee touch attacks to hit, as described officialy in D&D 3.5.

Examples: Shocking wrasp , vampire's touch, melf acid arrow.. etc.

    Thanks for considering it!

Those spells already work with the arcane trickster class that's in game, don't they? Unless I'm missing something...

Edit: yup, sneak attack should already work on ray spells. Thought so!

By default nwn2 wasn't allowing it by it's own mechanic, was a fan update which scripted that thing. I can be mistaken but i think it probably need to be manually implemented.. well you know? get the addon from Dlan for example and implement it.

I totally suck at programming scripting or whatever like that. Anyway here is a link where everything got explained

If it's already implement good and nevermind this post

But you can get weapon focus and improved critical feats for both melee and ranged touch attacks, and ranged-touch uses dex anyway.

id kinda like to see the class be more attainable, if a sorcerer rogue wanted the class they would need to make 6 level in sorc, and 3rd in rogue. how about needing the sneak attack feat in stead of needing a 2 hit dice sneak. or.... would it be too much to suggest that instead of using 3rd lvl spells 2nd? and maybe up their hit points with current arcane casters at 6 per level?

            again just a thought.

I was under the impression as well that Sundren did not use the fan-made fix that allowed sneak attack damage on ranged/melee touch attack spells.

Which would make Arcane Trickster rather amazingly terrible!

There's numerous posts about as working as an arcane trickster on a variety of relevant spells, so I believe we have a patch of some kind in place, be it fan or sundren staff made.

As for level 24, good luck with that.

gonna bump this If I may... a few other thoughts I had...

1 since arcane spell casters have there hitdice upped to a d6 I would think that's a no brainer.
2 impromptu sneak attack on a cool down timer instead of once or twice a day.. it would go hand in hand with the SD shadow daze. ( or at the very least increase its amout of usage).
3 give the AT medium BA.. right now its as low as the wiz/sorc with minimum 5 (if wiz... 6 for sorc) levels less of casting..

AT sounds like such a great RP class, I would love to see more of them...

                      anyway just a thought.

I think a lot of the problems with the class derive from the fact that people try to play them like rogues instead of just a wizard with a feather in his cap. With such steep reqs they arnt worth playing but the flavour is undeniable. (I've had one here and loved it despite the gambit)

The problem with this class is that either way you go, the requirements impose such a steep penalty as to make it untenable.

Sneak Attack +2d6 requires at least three levels of Rogue, which with a level 15 cap means a Wizard only gets 6th level spells as opposed to 8th.

3rd level spells requires at least five levels of Wizard, which is low BAB and does absolutely nothing for Rogues.

On Sundren, an Arcane Trickster is going to be Rogue 3, Wizard 5, AT 7, and will be terrible at Rogue things and terrible at Wizard things.

I would suggest dropping one or both of those requirements considerably. If we consider Arcane Trickster to be for Rogues what Eldritch Knight is for Fighters, you could drop the sneak attack requirement to +1d6, requiring only one level of Rogue. But unlike Eldritch Knight, Arcane Trickster isn't not high or even medium BAB, and even if it were medium BAB, the rule of four still makes it highly impractical to mix with Rogue.

In short, here are my suggestions for the class.

                          1. One or both of the following:
                          a) Reduce the Sneak Attack requirement to +1d6.
                          b) Reduce the spell requirement to 1st level arcane spells.
                          2. Increase the BAB to medium.
                          3. Increase the skill points per level by an amount that is up for debate.
                          4. Add Move Silently and Hide as class skills.

                            5. Let Lotus get to reveal ALL the coming class changes first. Taking everything down 5 levels is a global thing, where all classes need changing. Let's what happens

The class abilities suck in game anyways (without reworking them to something that's not bugged). AT's at 20th level cap were good. Just because it's 15th level cap doesn't mean it should get better for a 15 level cap range. It's also not an excuse to make ATs a "gestalt" style class. Spell sneak attacks don't even work on Sundren so this class is really just poop and should be scrapped completely, unless people want it for flavor. I'll tell you the flavor is slightly bitter though.
