  • RP Ticker

I would love to see the RP Ticker becoming a fair source of XP now that grinding locations have been adjusted for players. My suggestion is to make a system where players can increase their RP Ticker for their Gamespy account ID through several different RP avenues.

For example, because Dain Tornbrook consistently posts RP material on the forums, his account, roguethree, earns a +15XP/10min to his RP

Furthermore, Dain shows himself to be a responsible faction leader, earning himself +30XP/10min.

Dain has also impressed DMs with his attention to detail and character depth for over a year, earning himself +30XP/10 min.

Dain has finally decided to retire his character, an asset to his faction and the server, earning himself +30XP/10 min.

Now when Dain creates his alt and decides to chill and RP at the campfire, he will be earning 135XP every 10 minutes for role playing! Of course, what earns a player increased RP ticks may vary, as their reward, but the heart of the matter is that I would love to see RP ticks becoming more rewarding for the players who interact with characters more than they grind.

I like it. Always a fan of rewarding rp and forum play more.

After the game, the king and the pawn go into the same box.

Saulus and others have traditionally been against changing the RP ticker values either on a location, volume or other weighted basis, so I wouldn't hold hold your breath for this to be something that goes ahead!

I'm more than happy to be proven wrong though, so we'll see what happens.

I'm not particularly a fan of RP tickers that are weighted based on DM input. They will always at least be perceived as biased, and often times actually will be. I would be especially against linking it to gamespy accounts instead of characters, because it would be just one more huge advantage that favors older players.

That said, I've always thought it a little silly that I've still never seen an RP server where leveling through RP (you know, the point of the server) is actually a viable thing.

Because it's Dungeons and Dragons. Going on adventures is always going to be the ticket.

I would be happy with a flat increase to the RP ticker as well, or a system that unbiasedly gives scaling XP.

I wouldn't be opposed, given the rapid pace at which leveling moves anyway. We'll talk it out.

Lotus: Has there been any more discussion on the flat increase or other changes to the rp ticker?

While going out and adventuring is obviously a more viable way of leveling, upping the ticker would help encourage more downtime in between the slaughtering of monsters for combat centered players.

It would also allow less combat centered players who might have a hard time finding a group to level, or who want to spend more time developing their character feel they are growing in terms of power(i.e. experience to their next level) without having to go out and adventure constantly.

As for an example of how this would look, turning the amount gained from 30 a tick (is there a set timer on how much xp you gain per tick?) to say 90-150 per tick; While this seems like a large boost on paper, take into account that you can gain this in a matter of seconds while out adventuring. Also, (I already believe this is how it works so correct me if I am wrong,) It could turn off for characters over 20 so that the daily quest/events would continue to be the only venue for epic character progression.

While I like Ramza’s idea, I think the implementation would be way more work over on your side than it would be worth it, so the flat increase for all under level 20 seems more like the direction to go.

                  Thanks for your time.

Increase to the ticker is already committed for the next update.

                      Awesome!

Is the number known, or is that still being figured out?

                      thanks!

The number is, in fact, known, else it could not have been committed for the next update.

Then let me rephrase the question. May you tell us what it is being changed to per tick, and or, how long is every tick?
