  • More Fishing Spots!!!

Imagine, if you will, this Scenario:

Skaald Silvermane walks to Sestra to travel to Ixis...only to come across this gorgeous new River Path map...

...as he approaches the dock, this BEAUTIFUL River before him, he pulls out his Fishing Rod....

    ....and he can't fish.

The Barbarian, in his fury, picks up the overturned boat next to the docks, rows out, all across this BEAUTIFUL lake...

...and he can't cast his line anywhere.

Many Lizards died that day, due to the Northerner's fury....

I'm reasonably certain that the fish were given the same ultimatum as the villagers: Follow Bane, or GTFO.
So they are probably either laughing at your pathetic attempt of a fishing-hook, cowering in fear, or dead.

Also. . . have you SEEN that waterfall? Getting stuck in that river might be a death-sentence.

This reminds me how much fun it would be with a real crafting system where people could dig or fish in certain spots and have the chance of finding some super rare component. Like a seabass that swallowed a pearl or something.

Anyway ignore me crafting still isn't really on the radar (I know, I know).
The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.

Aside from stuff straight-up not available (like alchemical gold) via in-game gathering, honestly the crafting system works pretty well for what it is.

I've never seen a crafting system in a PW that wasn't fueled by the tears of its supplicants.

Only if you can get the Zelda opening a chest music when you find the rare component.

The thing that people probably don't know is that the crafting system in Sundren which was made by an ex-dev actually destabilized the module and caused it to crash a few years ago (can't believe I used the term years but its true). Since then GBX repaired the module by ripping bits out of crafting and duct taping it together into a state where it's working.

Frequently people will ask us why we don't just add more or do a little extra work on crafting but the reality is if we do we will just end up in the same situation. It's fundamentally flawed at its core and not worth trying to modify, as it would be akin to rewriting it all anyway.

It's not a simple task and certainly something that would stretch my programming ability, which is why it has to fall on GBX's time which is sparse as he is a busy guy.

When the new spawn system is implemented and working fully it will be the next true big successor project most likely, but that's something we still are evaluating as a group internally.

I shall put on the record that the Crafting System is powered by wishes and duct-tape.
This explains much, and is not a significant surprise.

I do agree with Valhalla though: it still works remarkably well. Kudos to you guys.

[edit] Sorry about the threadjacking. Is making water fish-able a Boolean that could be activated for the area, or a 2d-path that is traced on the terrain? Either way, Kitten has a point. Not like the Fish do much other than a megre bit of income or *gasp* RP value.
