  • Rest on Reset

Is it possible to give players a rest on server reset? This way, if we are in the middle of a dungeon or hostile area when the mini-apocalypse occurs, we don't come back unbuffed, with freshly spawned monsters all around us, AND no spells.

I know the first rebuttal will be "But then you could clear Whurest, wait in the basement for reset, then do just the boss again and get 2x loot!" But I think that would be a minority situation and it would be outweighed by people who legitimately get stranded and don't want to die. If I'm wrong and people are gonna exploit the hell out of it, ignore me!

I can't slow down, I can't hold back though you know I wish I could. No there ain't no rest for the wicked until we close our eyes for good!

For you ... Nexus Stone ... or you can always beg a Paladin via Sending to come save you.

Actually my first rebuttal would be "Why do we need to make you prepared for something that you know happens at the exact same time every day?"

With the exception of server updates (which aren't too often) resets are easily able to be planned around.

no offence to anyone, but due to this I have to limit what I do in the RP world unless its sitting around the fire. what I mean is... If in the off chance im in a party and they are going to a place I know would be suicide if I went on my own, I have to bow out on the off chance my nose picking ankle biter decsides that her stuffed cat looked at her the wrong way.. (3yr olds have a terrorist mentality, and ya can negotiate with them). so I end up not going, and missing out on a shit load of awesome stuff.
my suggestion, if you cannot have "rest" how about give time on the sanctuary to get out of where ever you are?

I have those things like invis, nexus stones, etc. so this is not really a "me" thing. Just a thought I had earlier for those who might lack those crutches. I can't really argue Saulus's "you're a big kid, plan for this" argument, I just thought it seemed right some how. If the server wipes out all your buffs like it's a brand new day, shouldn't it give you the spells back to replace them as if you had slept? If that's too carebear, see the aforementioned clause on ignoring me.

Also, I will die a gory death before I ask a paladin for help, Mournas!

Normal resets, certainly. Perhaps a 5-minute warning before off-cycle updates could be a protocol though? The server going poof an hour before normal was rather unexpected, though highly appreciated.

                I'm with bipolar bear here.

People shouldn't have to make IC plans around OOC server resets. That the reset always comes at the same time every day makes it an extreme inconvenience for certain play times, as well.

It's plausible to script but really after 6 years I think everyone has got by with it as is... in the off chance someone dies in a dungeon DMs have offered a free res before.

And while it may be an 'extreme inconvenience' (that really made me chuckle); it's also vital for me to test server updates while I'm, awake so I don't spend hours into the night fixing updates because of the screwed up NWN2 updater.

Most restarts; if there is no issue with the updater take around 3 minutes.

If it bothers people enough I could simply just do less updates, but I don't think anyone wants that (or maybe I'm wrong).

Also for the record I do try to provide advance warning but sometimes I don't have someone on the server, and I might have already modified my client and can't join myself (because of an update)... so rather than postpone the update I run it.

Updates are definitely good, not disagreeing there.

There's a daily reset at the same hour!? When?

Also the server rules in the autodonwloader waiting room states that no refund given to deaths that occur to resets/crashes.

but if you stand very still, no mobs spawn so they?

The server reset is character rebirth IMO. If I have a character that is cursed, for example, and I am unable to find someone in game to restore him... then I merely wait for the server reset so as to start again fresh the next day. The server resets at 7:00 AM where I live. So it is very convenient.

I can understand the opposing point of view, but I would rather we not mess with this in anyway because the server reset is known and easily worked around. And for anyone caught unawares in a dungeon there may be a similar number relying on the reset for character rebirth.

                            Cheers!

always keep a good supply of invis potions and you'll never need worry about being trapped anywhere.
