That's not a bad idea... the try and buy...

Of course, I've almost got this code for people to change an existing items appearance done.

That would be very nice GBX!

As to faction points, I would keep them for faction only for turn in of "useless" equipment.

Taking equipment to the sanctuary should remain an RP "thing" and maybe a DM would give faction rep for a person going out of their way to give clothing away to the poor?

If an item is useless it shouldn't gain you rep with your faction. "Look... A smelly glove from an orc! I'm the shit!" I think the banners are supposed to represent your trek there and back and include any enemies you fight along the way.

I've never thought much about customizing my character's stuff. I've a feeling once I start, I'd be addicted.

We won't be adding rep gain for donating mundane items to whatever organization. However, good points, good will, and other intangibles could be affected by this. Public opinion matters.

Sort of like the old Baldur's Gate reputation score, only maybe for each town and not affiliated with player factions?

I know most servers don't go in for alighnment shifts from a repeatable mechanical source like this simply because it allows you to powergame between alighnment restricted classes.

Ya the Legacy model was cool, but what a builder nightmare it must have been to set up, also, they had to go that way because they were trying to limit asthetic choices to only what seemed to "fit" into a dark ages look. Sundren doesn't have to worry about that and I bet an apperance changer would be vastly easier.

That's less of an issue here. The most alignment cheesery I've seen was people playing "neutral" characters despite being completely despicable IC, all because they wanted to mechanically avoid Smite Evil.

Nail on the head, though: when you put in a system independent of DM judgment, you will always have people who abuse it, even if they're in the minority.

Awesome. Tired of picking out an item with awesome enchantments only to realize it looks like crap. The try and buy would still be a good addition for non-crafters though.

Some DM enforcement would help in cases like that. Although to be fair, Detect Evil is a huge driving force in encouraging people to choose neutral.

Is the appearance of faction gear going to be locked? A lot of the appeal there is in the uniformity.

Indeed. Additionally, will it be possible to ensure that faction restricted gear cannot be emulated through the appearance changer?
