  • Evil Clerics and Dominated/Turned Undead

    The scenario is this:

Being an Evil cleric surrounded by hostile undead I happily attempt to turn them, and lo-and-behold many of them switch sides to fight on my behalf! That is awesome... until the fight is over. At that point I am surrounded by undead in a place where Necromancy is illegal, and I lack any means of "dismissing" my new undead hoards.

Even taking a Full Rest, that resets all my spell effects, does not break this domination, and the Dominate effect does not seem to have a duration that can elapse.

Is it possible that we can build a "dismiss summoned Creature" option into dominated undead? Not to actually unsummon them, as we do other critters, but to remove the Dominate effect.

    Thank you for your consideration,

    Orlitoq

One sentence should alleviate that situation with the Sundren authorities.

"Mi'lord/Mi'lady, these are not the undead you are looking for.."

Haha, I think that is one of the (many) downsides of playing Evil unfortunately. You have all these nice powers and you can't use them indiscriminately unless you want to be found out :P

Btw, have you thought of killing them once you're done with them? Should be pretty easy considering all the ones still dominated will help you kill the one you're attacking.

All those nice powers like Dominating crap undead and spontaneously converting to Inflict spells.

Not that any cleric of any alignment should really be bitching ever, but Evil clerics are notably inferior to Good/Neutral and this would at least kind of help.

not to mention it gets kinda aquard when you realize you just passed the point of being over double the level of the undead in the area, and your 'rebuke' stun effect suddenly becomes 'hey, look I have friends'. In front of a legionare, say. . . Emmi. Got arrested for that one

I'ld be pretty happy with supporting a 'release undead' ability, as the only other means I know of so far are A) going pvp with a friendly buddy who can kill em all off, or B) mass cure spells. The latter is at least part of the reason my evil clerics have Sacred Purification.

Unfortunately, this is how one deals with summoned creatures, rather than dominated creatures. The Rebuke/Command of evil cleric turning adds an effectively permanent dominate effect to the undead, rather than turning them into summons.
I did go and confirm it, because it would have been really useful (and probably face-palmingly unobservant of me) if it had indeed worked as you stated.

Possibly, but not your own. Other people, however, might be able to. gime a few minutes, will set up an experiment.

Yeah, the very first time I played my master of shrouds it was a nice little surprise that all my adoring undead kept on with me even after I rested. The way I had to get rid of them was cast one of my hostile spells on top of them to piss them off.

Using any area of effect spell that doesn't require a target to cast that in any way detriments them will break the dominate. Grease is a great one, but just any spell. A nuke will do it, so you could flamestrike them or something.
