I was thinking about this for a bit, and map travel doesn't particularly represent the actual amount of time it would take for one to go from one part of the valley to another. At least, on a few occasions it doesn't seem like it does. One suggestion I would have is that travel from one point on the overland map to another (for the exception of the city of Sundren, as the districts would be close enough to not need travel time) to apply full rest rules on characters.
Such would not particularly benefit travelers seeking full rest, since points such as the Banite church in Sestra and the Drunken Dragon in Mirakus Post are close enough to map-transit points that one can simply drop by there, press 'R', and go on their merry way. Instead, it serves more of a sensible way preventing buffs cast in one area that last hours/minutes to pass from one area to another... even if one is so enhanced in the middle of Aquor and then travels to the Viridale for example. It also underlines the concept of the valley's expanse. One does not simply walk into Mordo... Argyle Keep. You gotta eat some 'taters on the way.
EDIT: To clarify, I'm not talking about any kind of general area transition points, just Map travel. So, Pioneer's Way to Tyr's Fork to Saharan Hills to Spittlefist Caves would not have full rest applied at any point. Pioneer's Way to Necropolis, on the other hand, would.
