I used to buff people for about 450gp on Kethoth. Made a small profit, and kept business flowing. And people doing stuff that wasn't sitting around a campfire. Because screw campfire rp.

Reinamar Stormseeker - The bladestorm that must turn back the wind. Arkerym of The People, practitioner of the forgotten art, pariah.
Tyler Penleigh - Obligatory author insert, Red Blade Defender, sarcastic jerk, caring brother, loving fiancé, war criminal.
Retired/Dead
Eirimil Gaelazair (Dead)- Bitter. Caustic. Abrasive. Egocentric. Probably right. Found dead in the burned-out Viridale forest a few weeks after the survivors were able to sweep the area after the Bloodmaim offensive. Aside from his usual attire, an intricate music box was the only thing in his possession.

I know it has little bearing (given Sundren's unique economy) but I considered the 3.5 Dungeonmaster's Guide suggestion of 10 x spell level x caster level.
Argument 1 would have been CL 20 so each 9th level spell alone would be almost 2,000.
Argument 2 would have been CL 25 (adjusted for Thayan sexiness) and those that much more expensive.
Argument 3 was "meh, 1,000 gold seems sufficiently expensive and I like base 10 numbers"
Those of you charging less/not at all are now branded competitors to Thayan interests and will be disintegrated.I can't slow down, I can't hold back though you know I wish I could. No there ain't no rest for the wicked until we close our eyes for good!

I think potions and buffs have a massive difference. Potions last on average 5 mins, buffs 40 mins+. Buffs are in the majority of cases 10x harder to dispel.
If you had them dispensed from an NPC then they would be unlimited, and accessible at any time of day even when Sandro isn't around. It would take away practically the only useful thing about being a Wiz/Sorc, that is, being a buffbot.
Also, at least with Sandro doing it he can only buff one group at a time, and he has to live with the consequence of being weak as a kitten since he just donated all his magic (unless he uses the log-out-log-in rest cheat I guess)UTC+8

why would you replace yourself with a meaningless mechanical button? I mean, the reason we play this game is because it allows us a great deal of human initiative, incentive and action. You find a great niche in doing that, why automate it away from the human interaction? My'athvin Simaryl - Elven Mhaornathil

I was not trying to replace myself, I was just spitballing an idea I thought would add something enticing to the Enclave. I find Thaelis's comment about wizards only being buffbots to be inaccurate. The main role I have seen for us is buffing with spot damage after the fact, usually in boss fights. Kinda makes us Gandalfs in a way, we do virtually nothing until the balrog shows up then we go boss-mode. Buyable buffs would free us up from spending those slots on buffs and allow us to prepare more pew-pew spells or webs or something....whatever your play style is. Also I had said that my thought was to have the NPC only cast some generic buffs (str/end/GMW/Imp mage armor) and that could still leave the real show stoppers for PC wizards. I don't see it as removing myself from PC interactions so much as it is evolving what those interactions involve.
I certainly do not log out/in bug because exploiting is lame. If nothing else, I try and sit around watching the grass grow to make sure the spells remain hard to dispel, for quality purposes.
Argument aside, Lotus already say No, no, burn in the fires of Hell, no. Then he ate a kitten? I dunno I was half-asleep, but the no was handed down from on high and that's fine. Like I told Foogoofish, I was expecting a no, hoping for a discussion and a maybe. We had the discussion, opinion is against the idea, and that's fine. At least I learned a few things.I can't slow down, I can't hold back though you know I wish I could. No there ain't no rest for the wicked until we close our eyes for good!

I can understand the need to broaden ones roles. But Id rather have the pew pews or other offensive spells made more useful, so you could summon stuff or dominate cast web/grease. That would be fun all around. Maybe a limit on the number of buffs you can have on you? My'athvin Simaryl - Elven Mhaornathil

Dominate spells that last longer than 10 rounds(not against other players though)
Control Undead has a reasonable duration (hour/level?), and undead creatures are generally more powerful than non-undead!UTC+8

I miss dominating True Sunderers and forcing them to remorselessly murder their former closest friends and allies. It brought a wee tear to my eye. But I wholeheartedly agree: wizards, and sorcerers, need a reason to spend those few valuable spell slots on something other than the same 3 spells that adorn every players prepared list. I'm a huge proponent for more magic play styles, because no one wants to walk around invisible while your world-altering magic is used by the musclehead ... unless you are an enchanter/transmuter focused on that sort of thing. I actually think that clerics snd favoured souls also need some help in that regard. They are sort of pigeonholed into short term selfbuff warriorpriests and sometimes healers.Active

Calvin gives out buffs for coin if you ask."Men fear thought as they fear nothing else on earth -- more than ruin -- more even than death.... Thought is subversive and revolutionary, destructive and terrible, thought is merciless to privilege, established institutions, and comfortable habit. Thought looks into the pit of hell and is not afraid. Thought is great and swift and free, the light of the world, and the chief glory of man."
