They do summon a Planatar or w.e if your neutral, im sure there is a 'good' outsider.

Ok, this is maybe stupid. Ok... Probably stupid, but the thing is. You are suppose to be all friendly and crap with your gated summon if you are team good. Is this something I would be ok RPing? I am pretty sure I can RP something out. No doubt there is a book or something with the name of planners on extra duty somewhere. But does this fall into the NPC thing?

For clarity: when I say friendly an crap I mean like, to the cause or the church. Not that I am taking him home to meet momma. Though, I am pretty sure this could work out.

Eh, you could argue that summoning a good outsider is better then summoning an 'evil' one. But, they are basically doing the same thing. You are bringing a creature from another plane into ours, people don't like balors because 'boohoo they are evil'.

A being of pure good should be almost as terrifying to people as a being of pure evil.

This. How could you ever hope to meet its standards of goodliness? Every little lie, every time you walked the other way instead of helping someone, every time you were selfish or jealous or got a bit too angry, are all sins in its eyes. Almost everyone is unworthy of the standards of pure good...even most paladins.

The first thing I am going to say is that the romance novel industry hates you.

The second is, this is a very good point and I will adapt my RP accordingly.

Wouldn't the summoned creature, no matter its alignment. Also not want to remain or be summoned to the Material Plane. It's effectively ripping them away from their own native plane and whatever they were doing. (They could've been fighting their own evil!)

I mean they could be a little bitter about it, just wanting to finish the task and leave. (Depending on the situation)

I'll have to quote GURPS on this one in it's section on angels.

An angel is one of the most terrifying of spirits, even though it works for Good (or at least righteousness) and may be entirely incapable of doing evil. The trouble is, it knows that it’s on the right side, and so it wields the borrowed power of a god without hesitation or ambiguity.

Mere morally compromised mortals (and most delvers are a pretty compromised bunch) have to watch their steps when angels are around.

From what I have read team good usually has packs with such goodly beings. There is an agreement that they will aid team good. Sometimes it is passed down as secrets for only the highest place members of the church. Sometimes in other ways, but depending on the god there is generally a fan club willing to do chores and stuff. The big difference seems to be that Team good asks for help instead of bit** slaps until said creature gives help.

Edit; And yes... I also just read that said help can slay said team good party if their cause is deemed not righteous. Which now makes me think that RP wise the gate spell is once again, off the cool spells list

It all depends, really. Gate more or less forces the creature through regardless of their will (if I recall correctly), but there is no reason why any summoner couldn't have some kind of bargain/relationship/deal with the creature being summoned.

Being polite and asking permissions are not exactly forbidden to evil characters.

                              Both parts actually apply!

Harkening back to Kit's good friend Hypertext d20srd.org, the round/level or one-quick-task version costs the caster XP and basically orders then to do whatever. The more complicated variant involves XP and some form of negotiation: you forcefully bring them to your presence, and after that, you actually need to talk with them to try to get them to help you.
Summoning deities, Cuthulu, or the Turrasque are all potential options, but not advised: Good luck explaining why you needed them.
Things from other planes also have a good memory, and are well within their rights to find you AFTERWARDS, track you down, and met out their own punishment. Or use Gate on You, for irony.

Damned Illithids. . . DM-Punch had a good idea with that, too.
                              [edit]Because: In Soviet-Sundren, NPCs Summon-Monster YOU!

                              Cheers,
                              Kit

I am actually kind of bummed. I mean a 10 footed winged warrior of ass-kicking awesomeness would have helped out a lot. Now I am back to the stinking bear... Dude.. You ever tried to fight with the smell of wet bear in your nose?
