  • Should we replace the Fugue?

    According to this update:

    NPC Cleric Raises
NPC Clerics will revive dead characters for a tithe. Please roleplay your friend as being at death's door, but not actually dead. The afterlife is not a revolving door.
If characters are not actually at Death's Door should the Fugue be replaced with something that is more representative of being critically wounded rather than glimpsing the afterlife?

Obviously the argument can be made that your character is so close to death that they catch this glimpse of the other side as part of a delirious state, and I am totally OK with that. I just thought it might be facilitate the "I'm not dead yet!" RP if some other locale was portrayed...

I know someone did a great job designing the fugue, (I think it looks really cool.), and there is no reason to make this a high priority change either. The concern I have is just that the extant fugue may no longer be thematically appropriate now that characters are not really dead.

So far the only alternative that comes to mind, for me, is the inside of an Illimataryan Temple. Instead of a Grim Specter, you would need to speak to the Head Cleric to see if you were recovered enough to be "released".

Can people think of other settings that would be appropriate to the change of status to badly wounded from dead? Do you think such an undertaking of designing a new "fugue" is unnecessary? If so, why? Would it be sufficient a change just to alter the Self-Resing dialogue to let you check on the status of your "wounded body" rather than "corpse"?

People who are dead or unconscious have no concept of their location, so the Fugue - if it's even roleplayed at all - would be one of those weird, hazy dreams that the character isn't quite sure was real or just a figment of their jostled imagination.

The Fugue serves its function just fine. There's a lot better things the Staff can do with our collective time than change something that does not need changing.

What happens in The Fugue, stays in The Fugue. I think it's fine as is and I'm glad for the "on death's door" clarification. I think most of us have been RPing it that way.

I've thought about this actually, but the best I could come up with is some sort of medical treatment area ... but then, it just wouldn't make sense that everybody would be critically wounded and go to the same hospital, so that would necessitate a bunch of new areas, potentially one for each faction. In the end, I decided not to suggest it because it just seemed like too much trouble for the limited payoff gained.

We should have a beer fridge in the Fugue. And an arm-wrestling table for Dain and Adeodatus.

Edit: Wait, what am I thinking. It would just be Adeo sitting at the table on his own

Yes, I realise my RP writing sucks. Just be thankful I keep it short

I maintain that all NPC clerics should henceforth be known as "Miracle Max." Upon restoring a not-quite-dead person we get told to take it easy, as we've been mostly dead all day.

I can't slow down, I can't hold back though you know I wish I could. No there ain't no rest for the wicked until we close our eyes for good!

Should we replace the Fugue -- in short no. It serves its purpose well and it has already went through several iterations. As others have mentioned we could be working on far more popular features than altering a place people would rather avoid seeing.

Please don't hesitate to continue making suggestions, the more player support it has, the more likely the staff will review its inclusion into the module.
The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.
