If *nods* could earn RP xp then half the server would be epic levels. I swear wearing full plate stops people from holding a conversation, perhaps because they are focusing so hard on not pooping themselves under the strain of standing upright under all that weight.I can't slow down, I can't hold back though you know I wish I could. No there ain't no rest for the wicked until we close our eyes for good!

I'm in favor of this for the primary reason that it will encourage RP in dungeon crawls. Sure, the omnipresent issue of buffs running out will be there, but perhaps getting a mob's worth of XP for emoting an especially awesome KO would help spice things up a bit.
I will say, though, that Sundren seems to have slower intended progression than ToA, so a slight reduction in the amount of the script might be in order.Adama who was once called Adama Hrakness, sacred paw of Mielikki
Lihana Farrier, Paladin of Torm and noble dalliance
On Hold: Alandriel Ward, Actually a Vampire Groupie
Retired for Good: Tamryn Jorandur, Hano's Wife and Conflicted Soul

I sincerely doubt people will so blatantly abuse the proposed system =\Step in front of a runaway train -
just to feel alive again.
Pushing forward through the night,
aching chest and blurry sight.
It's so far, so far away~

Or you could make it only happen in certain 'RP Hub' locations, taverns, campsites, areas (Such as the Second Wind, and Exterior)
I like the idea though!Characters:
Elizabeth Brooks
Human Cleric of Tyr, Initiate of the Just
Vivian Shadechild
Wanderer of Innocence and Hugs

Global might be easier, but if a location system was chosen it would need to be pretty comprehensive - Campfires, faction hubs (and towns), inns, rest zones and some neutral areas (parts of Viridale etc..)
I like the idea of the RP ticker, while D&D may traditionally be about going into creatures homes then murdering them for fun and profit the PW system is quite removed from both that and the classic DM + beers, pizza and a small group of dubiously smelling lank haired misfits.
Encouraging players to indulge in politics, plans and world domination is a good thing and should be rewarded. It is the greatest of all mistakes to do nothing because you can only do a little - Do what you can.

As another ToA refugee that is amazed by your most of your server and completely pushed away by your lack of RP xp, I just have to create an account to post my opinion on this.
Past my desire to see RP XP on your server, here are the three things I would like to point out :
1 - Because your server has a maximum lvl of 20 that will not increase without DM help, offering some RP XP that stops at lvl 20 will not give anything bad to your server, only good.
2 - You over did it on the map part. So many maps, the few I saw so far were pretty amazing... but so many maps, that even if there are 30-40 players logged on, if I play it hardcore instead of using the player finder widget and run to the zone with folks, it might take me 30 mins 1 hour before I actually meet someone. RP XP will promote folk to hang together more and sort of fix that flaw that comes with having such a HUGE server.
3 - Give some goodies to players past lvl 20, just make it really light so it doesn't break that balance you wish to keep... like, 3-5 rp xp a tick past lvl 20 ? So you would keep that balance and give the players the impression they re not completely stuck at lvl 20.
that s all bye.

I find some interesting comments here, like how roleplay should only be valued by the XP you get out of it... WOW. Really? Not what I expected to hear.
Our current XP ticket is already accomplishing what we had set forth -- a minor bit of XP for people who are RPing, it was never meant to replace questing, exploration, killing monsters, etc.
DMs notice people who roleplay. We have had characters who have done nothing but promote good RP and basically ignore all our dungeons because they don't grind.... and yet they are still high level... why? Because DMs notice.... and the DM XP they get is significant.
There are players that are already levelling up several times faster than anything that was ever possible before -- if anything people are advancing too quickly, and this is only going to increase as more quests are added.
In short: people shouldn't have to have a dangling carrot over their head to RP, that's the reason why you come to the server in the first place... and if you do then it's likely you prefer to play a game where RP is an afterthought, not a pillar of gameplay.
As for advancing past lvl 20, this was and always will be primarily through DM XP. AS we add new epic daily quests this will be another viable method as well.
Sitting around an RP campfire and getting epic levels randomly makes no sense.
Also to address the comment above ^ If you don't want to use the Find Player tool, and yet complain about how long it takes to find another player... wait what? The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.

But if you are a weirdo (now, I *may* be one of these) who likes to make non-combat characters, you need to be dedicated...you might die of natural causes before you reach level 20
Then again, if you play those kind of characters you probably don't care about level all that much.
If your really keen on leveling faster you can tag along with groups on the pretense of gathering knowledge, dyes, ingredients...whatever. That's how I did it anyway. You'd be amazed how much XP you get in a party of six players. Good luck!UTC+8
Yes, I realise my RP writing sucks. Just be thankful I keep it short

*shrug*
It's just that I logged on your server, looked at all the fun skills, and decided to play a pure rogue, and I knew that I wouldn't lvl as fast as the others, just didn't expect it to be -that- different.
I dont know this server well so I totally might be wrong on stuff mind you. I just don't want to roll a guy with a full plate and tower shield to be awarded some goodies once in a while. The difference in lvl up compared to a social toon versus a grinding toon seems to be humongous. ( without counting that DM xp you talk about that I have no idea how influencial it is)
