  • RP Exp

Perhaps write a line of script that gives a 25% chance to grant 20-70exp (random amount) If you speak or emote within 50ft of another player? This reinforces social gathering and banter as a way to spend one's time on the server, rather than hacking and slashing through dungeons to 'grind' exp. The variables could be changed to whatever the good folks on the Sundren team deem appropriate.

The current system grants 30exp every ten minutes or so after an hour of not getting exp from npc's, which is cool too!

I am all for this. The 30 xp ticker is nice, but you can get it without RPing or just wandering... On roleplay servers we all put a lot of effort into our dialogue, character, and concepts, to be rewarded for such is much more fulfilling than an automatic ticker, where I feel I haven't earned it at all :/

I don't know. Such systems promote people to spam out nonsense or start becoming way long winded instead of staying true to their character. It can hurt rp as much as help it at times.

This is an idea that has a lot of merit, and in my experience (as a ToA refugee) has reinforced role-playing.

The XP gain isn't huge, but it is a reward for those who spend their time role-playing instead of grinding. The fact that someone can wander aimlessly, alone, and get the same experience (or more, from exploring) as a group of people RPing in the tavern doesn't really reward the roleplay. Granted, on ToA I never had a DM give me experience for non-event roleplay.

Just my two cents. Giving a small boon to people who are actively role-playing can't be a bad thing. Even if it's in rest-only areas.

We definitely want to reward the role play, but let's keep in mind that this is Dungeons and Dragons: it's about getting lost in dangerous places and doing heroic (or villainous) things. That core adventuring component of the game is always going to be the most mechanically rewarding, but I'm definitely open to finding more ways to reward those people who choose to play the game in a different, less adventure-oriented way.

((Side note: If I catch you RP'ing while dungeon crawling, I'll have a nerdgasm and shower you with love.))

See, never once on a serious RP server, like this or TOA, have I ever experienced people spamming. Nor do I see the problem with being 'long winded', as many people even here I've noticed (actually here moreso than other places) people paragraph RP. Yes adventuring is a component and it is about getting lost in dangerous places but... Doing those things are what rewarding through -roleplay- on these types of servers, as alone things aren't set up by a DM all the time. It's not an action server, that much is evident. And to Lotus, hence why I despise grinding -- No one ever RP's with me when I dungeon crawl ;_; People, I beg of you, if you take me grinding, RP WITH ME! PLEEEEASE! QQ

It's the buffles. It's hard to take the time to roleplay when you're fully aware of the tick-tock of your survival buffs wearing away.
But please, keep one thing in mind for me. What have you become when even nightmares fear you?

Speaking as a buffles person - I agree with Lugwy - especially at lower levels. :/ It's hard to stop and talk for 3 -5 mins when you're class kinda relies on the buffs.

I really like this idea. Even if some people abuse it by blabbering crap, it will still be rewarding those who constantly RP 100% of the time they are online. If the reward was large enough it would also discourage soloing.

^-- Is a shameless paragraph rp'er, always has been and likely always will be.

I personally struggle to capture what I want to say in a simple one or two line sentence, I am also bad on grinding runs because I always try and make the people I'm with interact with me in rp, and I tend to walk everywhere all the time unless the crap is really hitting the fan, I do have characters that depend on the tick-tock survival buffs so I do understand where people are coming from when they talk about the buff timers being something that never leaves the back of your mind, even still I'd generally still prefer to let them run out and find a spot to rest and continue rp before heading back in to finish a job, but I completely see why other players might consider that an unnecessary waste of time, preferring to get in, get the job done and get out again so they can rp afterwards in safety.

It takes different strokes to move the world.

                        Oh, wait. =X

That said, I do enjoy rp-ing while dungeon crawling, but usually defer to other people in terms of pace. Last thing I want to be is a hindrance to other players

I am also one of those paragraph RP'ers out there. I try to be quick about it but I often get lost in the details. Sure there would be people throwing out two line emotes and possibly milking the system a bit, but those people typically emote like that in general. I think the pros outweigh the cons with the proposed system, and speaking as one of those meddlesome ToA refugees - I've seen it promote positive RP before.

I am also guilty of shameless paragraph RP as well. I emote a lot. I am not sure if some people find this annoying or not, but I like to bring my characters to life. So often, even if my character is not talking. They are doing something. I am not sure if this qualifies as spouting out silliness or not.

I think RP XP is a really good idea and will promote RP more then anything else. It encourages people to try RP rather then sitting tight and just watching.

For some characters, RP does consist of just sitting tight and watching...
Anton Kevali - Just happy to still be alive, and not to blame...
Sandalon Balachem - Holy Knight, and Companion of the Noble Heart
