Levelling in a faction seems moot when you play european timezones and most of the character concepts you wish to play have trouble finding a niche in the factions. Don't take it the wrong way, Sundren and it's factions are a great addition to the nwn2 gameplay, but yeah... I usually play elves, nature types or CG/CN free-spirited characters, and it's a bit hard to find a cause that fits with the character and classes

Having more Class/race content would dilute the issue for me, as some of thestuff I'd like to do with the engine are severely handicapped without some of niches Kaedrins Class-pack provide AND a 20 level cap. Like Dervish and Bladesinger fx.

my thought when I started this thread was more aimed at the real pivitol toons out there. like the Blackwell woman, james the archmagus, and some of the other leaders of the factions.
me I may never make it to 20th due to my limited play times, but as everyone eles is getting to 20 those history making chars do not seem to be as "untouchable". some may not think twice to cross them due to level. and some may start being around more if they thought they could advance their old fav.

      anyhow good discussion.

I'm pro lower cap, myself. Already a huge gap between the haves, have nots, and new toons. Maybe an option for going pass 20something in-which you opt for your next death to be permanent.

After the game, the king and the pawn go into the same box.

I'm utterly against the idea of simply raising the level cap, I still feel that raising it from 15 to 20 was a terrible decision.

That said, I could possibly be convinced that a cap raise to combined with an initial level raise to 10 (to lower the level spread) may be a good idea. So long as all the stupidly OTT epic crap was stripped out AND a fierce perma death system implemented.

As for Keadrins class pack - It was one of the topics raised in the 'How to save Sundren' thread and I do have it on my to do list (I'd like to see it in as much as anyone) but recently I've been so snowed with work and other pressures I haven't even had a chance to start organizing downloads for it, let alone factoring in all the points Lotus raises regarding lore / server direction etc..

I know there has been a discussion of many points of view, how about epic level with X level of rep? it might make the best of both worlds.

1 it gives the possibility of a PC to make a limited epic level.

2 I puts the emphisis on the faction system. IE miros (pardon the spelling) Blackwell, being as high as she is with the legion would be epic?/ that scary cleric of bane Korvos ( again not sure of the spelling) would also be epic and her counterpart.

I was thinking that a cap of 15, with a 10% drop in xp / level over 15 would slow things down a bit; if you go with 10, you could also go 5%/level.

There is a problem with the factions gaining ranks/doing stuff etc. MOST of it requires a DM, there isn't much other than the flags and guardhouses PL put in, which are wonderful, yes but there isn't anything else that's really mechanical that doesn't require a DM. There used to be donation chest, but since we're getting paid, that doesn't make a lot of sense .

There are 5 (?) main factions; 2 "good" (legion, Trium), 1 neutral (Exigo); and 2 "evil"(BH, EC). Assuming that the neutral isn't going to step on the toes of the good, that leaves a possibility of 7 different conflicts (assuming the EC is going to try to take something from the BH). I can see this being done in one area, with a conversation, and blocking entry until the conflict is settled; or 7 distinct zones for each combination. The thing off the top of my head is a challenge system -- "Oh no! The legion has sent a patrol after our poor sleepy town, to arms!" You get regular units, but depending on the challenge you pick, you get regular, Green, Blue, Red or possibly Purple counter units to defeat for the Glory of your faction! Defeat by the enemy somehow reduces your faction, but success depending on the challenge, increases it a bunch.

Becky Dragonhin - Sword of the Loyal Fury, Knight of the Triad... the only Good hin in Sundren???

Eh, Legion are more of a neutral faction. There's only one truly good faction, and maybe that's something we should address.

I just highligthed the stuff I didn't get, you mean to make new characters lvl 10 to begin with? Tbh, I wouldn't mind a lower xp cap instead of a 20+, as it would make other builds interesting again - right now fx, not many melee builds compare to a full fighter

I'm really glad to hear that the concept of kaedrins classes aren't completely off, I had thought that the many scripts of sundren actually were a hindrance to incorporating them! But I can understand there's a lot of work involved. I wish I could help somehow. FYI you have to ask Kaedrin himself permission to use his stuff these days, at least his latest stuff.

This. I also think that there's a larger barrier to get player-initiated factions consolidated here than other servers, and that's extremely frustrating at times - But I also understand that having a lot of factions lying around with no players to fill it with activity is a horrible thing.
