  • Eliminate Cool Down Timer for Flag Capture

Given the significant improvement in faction equipment, combined with the elimination of gold-for-reputation, I would like to suggest the cool down timer for rep flags be eliminated. As it currently stands, there is a real time 90 minute timer.

    Thank you!

    Cheers

I suppose the cooldown is there to prevent an excessive grinding/farming behaviour, I have obtained most of my rep from DM events. 1000 each.
Probably they want to encourage you to do DM events as your main source of rep and put the banner+vouching as a little extra for when there are no DM around.

Yes Clangeddin, that was the tought behind the original system. Though, the suggestion is a good one. Thanks for making it.

Actually, I've already made two changes to the banners, which will go live shortly:
        - Cooldown cut in half
        - Level check on the banner (You must be within 3 levels of the area's CR to be able to cap the banner)

I'll consider removing the cooldown entirely. Problem is, some areas are readily farmable for the banners. Think about Argyle and how close that banner is to the world entrance.

I'm all for automating rep gain, especially in the current climate of low population. My preference is to add more ways to gain rep rather than eliminate the cooldown... but that's just gut reaction. I'll think on it more!

          Hello,

          My first post.

I have not been with the server for all that long, but think the timer elimination might be good for the server at this point. There are not that many people on the server and there are a lot of factions. Perhaps you could make leadership positions primarily RP/DM based and gear and such rep only. That way the people that really want to lead and have a hand in the leadership/administration would be tied closer to the DMs and server and those that merely want to "dabble" in the faction and acquire some good kit, could do it merely from banners and the occasional RP event.

          Thanks for reading.

            My thoughts.

The current situation is kinda depressing. 8000/30 = 265 days minimum to reach top level (and thats if you go banner grinding every day, but most of us have more interesting things to do like RP :P)

On the other hand....if you eliminate the cooldown entirely people will become Archmage/Blademaster/Topgun in less than a week, guaranteed. They will just farm the banners.

On the third hand...Timer cut in half or even cut into thirds? Yes please!

I'm more for reducing banner timer over removing it., so those upcoming changes are good. Rep can be plugged in as part of quest rewards once the quests get reimplemented.

I'm still of the opinion that rep shouldn't be too easy to get outside DM events, though.
But please, keep one thing in mind for me. What have you become when even nightmares fear you?

I agree, I enjoy the challenge of gaining Rep, Through DM interaction, the occasional banner, and other members giving rep through RP.
As with all things, I will become more elastic about any change with time.

Right - blended approach is best. Count on one method or the other, and environment shifts (low population, DM presence, grinding players) wind up making it a problem.

Perhaps to keep people from reaching ludicrous reps (as Thelias stated) a cap on the amount you can collect for the day by scaling it to the rank of the person.

(I'm not sure what all the ranks are for blackwood, but you'll get the idea)
Ex. Grunt. "Good Job Grunt, that's your 5th banner this week! Here's some gold and a small bump in pay!"
Foot Soldier "Yes, you've collected 20 of these, but really, I can only give you credit for 10 of them... don't be to much of a show off... it makes everyone look bad."
Sargeant "So, you brought in 30 banners... go out and get some real work! * pays for 5* " Get out of my office you brown noser!"
                    etc

You really shoudln't have 5 Myrioses running about (insert highest rank) commanding one Legion (etc)

The problem still exists for nearly pure RP builds (which I have a plethora of unfortunately ... but that's my own fault) who can't go out and grind an area to grab a banner by themselves.

I'm a little cautious about lowering the time requirements, but I understand the need for it. I've seen one too many players manage to grind up to the upper echelons of their faction without any DM interaction, and too much time on their hands.

I'd much prefer that automated rep gains only allow one to go up one or two ranks in a faction.

I definately like the idea of banners only accesible to people within the level range of the area. Will stop lvl20+ demigods from spawning illithids and umberhulks into the viridale lol (vast exageration, I know)

I’d almost like to see a longer timer time with a slight uptick on reputation points per banner.

That works for people like me with less time on their hands. Doesnt for all. I think its a good step tbh
