Could we go back to the way things were, where there wasn't just one armor vendor, one weapon vendor, one helmet vendor, and so on? It really added to the server's atmosphere and various areas' identities, having various context-related items in various locations, and it's a touch ridiculous that there's only one (for example) hat vendor in all of Sundren.

The consolidation was done for a very good reason, to simplify the management of stores, instead of having 50+ unique stores to maintain, it's a much smaller handful now.

Unless you have a better idea of how to simplify the management without having over 50 stores, this is our best solution. It also took a lot of work to get them how they are now.

If this is the heart of the complaint, its not hard to add more vendors that tie to the same shop.

I think the heart of the complaint is that by 'simplifying' the stores, a lot of atmosphere and setting-RP has been taken away from the server.

It appears (to me) very watered down, and I'm personally confused as to what 'management' entails.

Gotcha. Just wanted to be sure the main point of frustration wasn't a simple fix.

Good to know you can tie in the stores, though! Scripting Ignorance Break is script ignorant.

It definitely presents an awkward situation when your character wants, for example, to buy a new instrument, but for RP reasons fears or refuses to deal with the barbarians in Aquor. Not to mention those without City passes can't access the specialty shops and crafting tables found only in the City. Though adding crafting tables is an easy fix.

I'm not accustomed to giving long, drawn out explainations on things but suffice to say... for someone who doesn't work in the toolset a lot let me explain something.

Let's say you need to add a new blueprint for an item you modified in a store, or that we need to evaluate pricing for certain types of items.

Now imagine you have 65 stores spread out in separate areas, and you have to go into each area, load it... edit the store... save it and close it down.

If that doesn't give you an idea of simplified management I don't know what will... 8 stores to change vs 65... erm... sorry you want to do that work? Didn't think so.

The complaint here is that we don't have enough, which is an easy fix. Need more music shops? Bam we drop one in somewhere else.

Until someone steps up to the plate and says "I will manage all 65 stores and update them for you" we are going to continue to use a consolidated version, with multiple copies of the same store accessible.

I'm useless with the toolset, but the work/management issues are very familiar from my days as an Engineering Design teacher.

I may not like the choices Saulus makes on various issues like this, but I completely understand why he makes them. In a different context, I've been there myself.

People think it's just me but this was a combined staff decision and GBX initiated this change, but for the reasons above you can see why we're sticking to it. It also took Cornuto almost two solid days of work to modify all the stores.

Of course. The leader's the face just tends to be the one attached to a decision. I spoke (misspoke?) in that context.

Plus Saulus looks really good in the scapegoat hat.

                        Really good.

Unfortunately we cannot depend on one person for such a thing. All it takes is for them to stop playing and the whole system fails, right now its easy for anyone to manage.
