  • KEMO Biography/Actions

    Hi there,

I was just noticing that the server used the regular NWN2 way of doing biographies, which is very limited to or two paragraphs and not much else. Perhaps we could add the KEMO Biography hak, that allows people to submit a TGA file as a picture to the server and allows an almost unlimited space to write out your appearance or disguise or whatever you want.

Perhaps then we could add the KEMO Actions as well, which would allow a variety of different actions from an easy to select interface. Although, I know that Sundren has it's own coded system of emotes and such. I personally don't know what works or not and I've been having to ask people how to do this and that. Granted, I am very new to the server and if there is a list of actions that work, please direct me to it.

Anyway, it's just some thoughts on my part.

    Thank you,
    AusGre
All deaths that my characters have in RP PvP or Story are permanent, they are lootable and I will ask if the opposing character does kill them or leaves them unconscious. I also adhere to all Sundren PvP/Death rules, I prefer to play by my own hardcore death rules.

There isn't really a need for extended Bios in game, it's a response to the Examine function and is best treated as such; just fill it out with what people would see when they look at your character. NWN2 also already allows custom character portraits, there's an active thread and portrait pack maintained by Rhifox if you fancy checking out how other people see their characters!

Putting your characters history into that isn't really needed and probably won't get read there, a better place for your characters bio is probably the forums or wiki.

As for Kemo actions, there are already a large selection of Emotes and actions available, check the .help menu in game (simply type .help into the text box and hit return!). I know the Kemo system does have it's own fancy dandy menu and what have you, but as a server we've taken the line that all the code going into the server comes from our devs, not stuff downloaded off of the Vault. It's hard enough at times with even a small team to track the code and avoid conflicts and changes that break things, it's several factors of 10 harder to avoid those problems when using downloaded changes.

Having a better menu/interface for the actions is a good suggestion though, perhaps one that our DEV team can take up once their current batch of projects is worked through.

If you end up taking a look at creating a GUI for the emotes, one of the things I would personally like to see is the option to loop them.

This serves two purposes depending on the type of emote. Postures, such as sitting and kneeling don't need to be looped for you or anyone in the zone, but looping them would allow people entering the zone after the emote is triggered to see the same posture.

Active emotes, such as waving or drumming could simply benefit from a loop option. People shouldn't need to type .dance every three seconds if they want to dance for a while.

The KEMO GUI is pretty haphazard. A better one to base something on would be PC Tools.

As with our code, a GUI would be a custom affair.

Honestly the KEMO Biography wouldn't be for adding histories, it would be extending the appearance of your character. You can describe everything about them from looks, hair color to the armor and sword that they wield with the actions. Plus the images are rather helpful and I'm sure others feel the same about the length that the biography of NWN2 system gives us is inadequate.

The pictures for the KEMO biographies are much bigger too, which appeals to me.

I completely concur. I'd love to have a bit more room to describe what others see when they see my character.
