  • Is it mechanically feasible to leave a dropped note?

One of the things I would like to see in game is the ability to write and drop a piece of parchment others can find and read.

Perhaps it would all stem from a minimum intelligence score and the necessary items - charcoal & parchment on your person. I just think it would great to leave a note while deep in a dungeon warning others, or explaining one's own circumstances before death.

    Just a thought. Cheers!

It's possible. I've seen it elsewhere.

      It is possible yes.

Leaving notes while deep in a dungeon wouldn't be the best idea though. Server clean up scripts would eat it after 10 mins of no players in the area.

I have local vars that could ignore cleanup of stuff like that. I dunno if I want note spam though XD

Next thing you know, you're dungeon crawling and pick up notes about a Chult prince who needs 500 gold from you to get his 1000000 gold out of the temple of Waukeen and would split it with you.

I think you are on to something GBX... This may work.

Or perhaps.. Your grandson/son/nephew/niece is in a Banite jail and needs 2000 gold for bail.

Omg!!! The poor man! Do you have his contact details? Alth has his Waukeenian credit-scroll in his hand as we speak!

Oh and why does this Chultan have a Thayan accent.....?!

EDIT: Oops, this went of topic. It is a cool idea, and a novel way to communicate with people when they aren't online. Maybe make these "Notes" valuable? 50gp? So people won't just drop them everywhere saying "I was here!"

I always just assumed to use the forums for things like this. Encourages more site activity.
The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.

I've been in RP a couple times where such notes could be useful: When the group splits up for some reason or another, and someone is left behind, it would be useful to leave a reason for the sudden disappearance if, for example, another event-hook occurs. They would also be useful for invisible or otherwise unseen people to contribute to a conversation without giving away name and location; I'm aware that although RP-wise it should not matter, but a dropped item tends to produce a different responce from floating text, and asking someone to refer to the forums in the middle on an event seems a tad disruptive. I've considered suggesting such an item before, possibly using either a modified version of the Sending script, or somehow applying the DMFI character-bio-editor function to a 'Blank Parchment' item.

                My crown and a half,
                Cheers,
                Kit

Dropping a note to interact? Sounds about as clever as an invis/stealthed person opening a door in a crowded and hostile room.

There are quite a few in game situations where having writable notes or letters would be a real asset. I can see it working very well in combination with the forums, a few ic objects and a forum post for the masses. I don't see it replacing forum activity at all, given the sheer number of posters put up and altered by characters places such as sestra would soon vanish under piles and piles of glowing blue bags.

Having customisable text based items would be a real boon for DMs, giving them the ability to create plot related papers and books without having to quit out to the toolset and go through the various stages to get them in game.

All in all, I'd like.to see this stuff ig.

Not to say that it would be wise to have letters suddenly appear midair and drift to the ground, but it would certainly make things interesting. And one could place them in the path ahead of a group, or play a massive Scavenger Hunt.

not to mention working for others IG, Nadril has a background as a foppish messenger for nobles. It'd be a great side job for those with sneak and scout abilities, as well as some social skills(and forgery/decipher script)! "find this person somewhere in the valley and deliver this letter"
