  • No more immersion-breaking glowy-ring around my feet!

    Please?

    http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view....Detail&id=113

The other selection rings are fine if you want to leave them, but that spinning, glowing ring always around my character's feet is so distracting when trying to RP!

I like my ring where it is, thank you very much.
    Characters:
Peridan Twilight, one-eyed dog of the Legion, deceased.
Daniel Nobody, adventurer and part time problem solver.

I'm actually on board with removing the ring that's always present on your PC. I like my targeting rings, but I don't need one for moi.

Look at you... trying to post from work and be all sly. For shame!

Alas, my darling, you aren't fully correct. The ring beneath the avatar itself cannot be removed (hence the modification that allows for it to be removed!) The ring that can be disabled through Game Options is the targeting marker ring... basically the spot that marks to where you're walking/running when you point-and-click. (Because no one uses WASD for movement... >.> ))

I'd not mind the ring beneath my avatar to be removed, but it's nothing immersion-breaking for me.

The ring for our PCs is usually much more useful in the single player game, where you control a party and that the number of characters you have selected have said ring under them.

The ring doesn't bother me and selection thingies don't bother me. I mean, if I can't have Maia lie down on a bed and just have her do so on the floor next to it and pretend she's on the bed, I can get over a selection ring around my character's feet.

More importantly, though... maybe removing the ring would be bad for DMs, whom often have to deal with handling multiple characters? I'm not exactly sure of how the DM Client works, but that could be an important visual cue for them.

I'm not sure how, but I remember messing with the extra buttons on my Naga to disable it at some point in the distant past. There's no indication in the keybindings menu, though, and nothing I've pressed in the last 10 minutes in any of the view modes has made it come back.

All I can provide is proof that it can be fluked, sorry. :/

Despite how easily I'm distracted by spinning shiny objects, I don't personally see much of a problem with the ring or find it breaking immersion.

I am curious though if the removal of it would help frame rate at all and/or reduce lag. I'm in favor of just about anything that does that.

If that actually works I'm going to smack myself. Will try when I get home from work.

It actually works. Wet your hand down first so you really feel it.

You were right, dearest. Now go take out the garbage like you're supposed to do - oh wait I did that for you already.

Glad there's a less intrusive fix. Funny the things you learn about a game even after having it for years!
