It would be interesting to develop a language learning process through the game system. Would it be feasible to set up a "Language Skill", that say every ten points you put towards it, earns another language. Or alternatively, every two points up in Intelligence grants one? This would be more in line with PnP rules I think.

It would also add something to work for, to those who wish to develop diplomacy/language based RP.

I like that. It would be interesting to be able to learn languages as you play.
    Would be very interesting.
Alternately, if you are super dedicated you can learn the language as a player then type our your stuff IN THAT LANGUAGE! How cool is that? Won't get autotranslated but that's what PM's are for. /end joke

I'm pretty sure that Read/Write Language is 2 skill points to be fluent. I'm not sure if natural intelligence gained through levels allows for automatic bonus languages (picking up another language in your general area/field of study doesn't sound like too much of a stretch though), but most DMs seem to be fine with it.

One current option is the bard, though that may not be what you're looking for.

With the current language system, it's actually possible to understand a language you didn't sign up for upon character creation if you pass a lore check (even animal language believe it or not). The DCs for this are so insane however, that a pure (or nearly-pure) bard that devotes skill points to lore is likely the only one who will regularly understand what is being said around him/her.

It's not exactly a perfect solution, but still an option. Bear in mind you will only be able to understand the foreign language, not speak it. Also, you obviously want to be careful in your approach of this from an rp standpoint. Languages don't just pop into your head one day and only druids and rangers should really be understanding animals.
