  • Resting: Tents

I once played on server where you had to buy a bedroll and tent. You could deploy your tent and make non rest spots, rest spot. Of course couldnt set up near enemies. And tool time to do. Maybe we could explore something like this in tandum with new rest?

Oof I always hated those systems. I see where you're going but tents are for overnight rest. Kind of defeats the new system's spirit by letting that happen in hostile areas. I imagine things like scrolls potions and difficulty will all be adjusted as the system grows though rather than tents.

It's been suggested multiple times before and it really isn't going to happen.

I believe there's a couple of issues with it - spawned vfx is an issue (it doesn't appear for anyone who joins the map after its creation), there's a possible issue with placeables and area effects being spawned/despawned by scripts and lastly the ugly clipping issue where tents/bedrolls end up hovering or spelunking.

It also goes against the idea behind the new rest system - The preparation for and tension of a dungeon run where resting is unlikely to be an option is completely mitigated if people can just slap down rest areas.

Well I wasn't think of pitching tent in dungeons, but out door spots, by the road or whatever. But yeah. K

I think he meant pitching tents in outside wilderness areas, not hostile areas. Sounds like a cool idea, as long as the tents cost both money and significant time to place, and can be destroyed by others (to avoid them cluttering up the great outdoors!)

The invisible tents issue i've never noticed...on M&s i would see tents people pitched days ago still lying around. Even if you don't make them restable, they are just a cool mustering point

Yes, I realise my RP writing sucks. Just be thankful I keep it short

Even limiting it to outdoor areas would still place it within a lot of the 'Dungeon' hostile environments: Spittlefist Hills, Mossdale, Viridale, Cartel Mountains, Schild Mountain slope, The Spine, Argyle..

In many ways it's a great idea - That's why it keeps cropping up. Even as just RP items it'd be nice to have tents and fires for camping trips and RP goodness, it's just unfortunate that the engines object and vfx placement is the way it is - I know I've spent a good 1/2 hour as a DM trying to get tents or other placeables to sit correctly when I'm setting up an area. For now the smattering of tents and camp positions placed on the maps will have to do I'm afraid.
