  • Domain Skills

I was wondering if there is a way for clerics with certain domains to get certain skills? Surely a cleric of a Nature God would have Nature skills. Due to the lack of skill points of clerics however, it can be tough on them to have certain skills as cross class even though their "domains" would cover them to be class skills. I know a few people who got grilled over this in game.

So and so should have this skills because of your god, yet its not even a class skill etc. Just wondering if that would even be possible to do or if the head ache of trying to do something like such would be immense?

    Clerics get plenty.

I Wouldn't waste skill points on cross class skills when I only get 2+Int bonus. Aye Clerics get quite a few skills to choose from, but whats wrong with say Knowledge Nature for a Cleric who worships a deity of nature and they have the plant domain.

Unfortunately, unless a developer chimes in the positive, clerics skillset will have to remain as is. In PnP they are able to have certain Knowledge skills based on the domains selected, such as Knowledge: Arcana for those who select the Magic Domain (Like priests of Mystra).

But for the time being, clerics will simply have to suck it up and spend that extra skillpoint if they want to be trained in a knowledge skill.

I mean they get plenty in that they are full progression casters with bonus feats that get to wear wear fullplate and can beat up fighters in a melee battle.

Having lame skills and no skill points is one of the few drawbacks to the class that I'd rather not see 'fixed.'

If you want to RP a nature priest with diverse skills, there's always the Able Learner feat or the Druid class.

Okay, just wondering is all. I don't care, I'm an able learner so everything cost 1 point for me. I do however think this is Justification not to gripe to someone because they did not stick points into a cross class skill. Even if normally their domain would give them the skill.

Never hurts to ask, just IMO clerics are doing pretty good as it is.

There's no griping involved. But a cleric is still expected to follow the duties and dogma of the god they select. If a priest of Mystra can't devise new magic (as they are commanded to do) because they have to roll an untrained check in Spellcraft or Knowledge: Arcana, then that's their shortcoming as a priest.

I completely agree, Clerics can be a little OP after 5 minutes of buffing.

Personally I'd prefer to see the Knowledge skills unlocked for every class, it might allow.some slightly more interesting characters or better rp situations.

I completely agree. Able Learner would actually be a viable feat if it didn't cap the maximum ranks you can put into a skill at half your level + 3, which only makes it viable for multiclassing builds. And if you're going to multiclass anyways, weaving the classes together and saving/dumping skill points makes Able Learner completely useless unless you only need to dip a level or two.

Pathfinder did it best by allowing any class to take any skill without cross-class shenanigans, and giving a +4 bonus to any trained class skills.

Yes please, although this would be slightly exploitable in some of the PrC's that require certain knowledge skill points to take, in some multiclassing scenarios (cleric/pali/FS + MoR for example) (just allows you to take lvls earlier)

You can always play a druid like a cleric. Druids get more skillpoints, a better spell selection imo, wildshape, an animal companion, various immunities and bonus feats.
Combined with a class like warpriest and you have all your armour proficiencies as well!
