The palemaster is the original undead summoning pet class from the primary campaign. Now, he's gotten a really nice boost with having his casting progression raised from 1/2 to nine out of 10 levels, which is awesome. But, I had a concern about there "Create greater undead" ability gained at the ninth level of the prestige.
The "animate dead" ability, gained at second level, scales with them as they level, eventually giving them a rather decent skeleton pet around the seventh level of the prestige. The "Create undead" ability, gained at level four, gives them weaker undead, but with some side abilities. The final summoning ability at ninth level of the prestige, "Create greater undead" gives them a level five vampire fighter, with no weapon.
A completely unarmed fighter. Now, admitedly, he is a vampire, so he has DR 10/silver and magic, and fast heal, which is nice, but he only has 42 hp with augment summoning on him. He is, in all respects, subpar to every other summoning ability the pale master gets. If he was the first summoning ability, that wouldn't really matter, but it being one of the end cap abilities of a ten level prestige leaves it slightly lackluster.
So, my suggest was perhaps the "Create greater undead" ability they get be changed to being the spell "Create greater undead" 1/day, or perhaps the vampire be slightly upgraded and given a weapon to fight with, as it IS a fighter. As it stands, the skeleton you summon with animate undead at the same level is four more levels fighter, and a possesses about sixty more hit points, a good deal more attack bonus, and far more damage output, which doesn't make sense, as he should be far weaker, as animate undead is a fourth level spell, and create greater undead is an eighth level, for arcane classes that is.
Would like to know what you all think, without the obvious comments about how it's a caster PRC, and they are OP, and etc. etc. etc. Just suggestions about what you think could be done to bring their nearly final power in proper line with the rest of their abilities, that should scale up as they level, and not down.
