This goes back to what I was saying. Who is the no-lifer staying there all day?! It's mentally tiring to even grind that much.

The problem with the grinders wasn't them getting the flags over and over, it was with the donation system. The system has been changed, I believe already, but before it was it was a big problem. It was easy to get money and sink it into the donation box to get a good amount of rep.

on the writing for rep points aspect idea, the primary criteria for rep points could be:

1). that it advances or adds something qualitative to the faction's power, prestige or uphold some quality of the factions ethos.

2). It adds rp hooks for dms and players alike.

It would be up to the players to comment how their piece complements one or two of these two criteria as a footnote to their work.

The rep "piece" could be sent in a private post to dm's, who then post it to the appropriate rp faction area / general rp area (as appropriate).

rep awards could be set according to a base amount per criteria and multiplied by a "anticipated coolness for the community" multiplier (minor eg. x1, moderate x1.5, major x2). This is decided by the dm's, (they can police their own).

i think people who lead player based initiatives could get rep points from various factions eg. the guy who organized the "free corps" would get positive rep points from a host of aligned factions (or not) and maybe negative to those they take business away from.

It could be possible for a "evil" organization that fights with other orgs to gain rep points with a good aligned org. for furthering their aims directly or indirectly.

Personally, I like reading RP posts and rumors threads.

They're a great way to expand on a characters history and actions, or give others insight into that characters way of thinking.

So long as people remember the rules regarding God-Modding (you can only speak/act for your own pc), and don't go putting insane things into their history (No Wish Spells, Lesser Wish spells, no arch demons/devils, no dragons.. All that kind of OTT stuff) then it's all fine and dandy with me.

If it's well done and appropriate then discussions over its Rep/XP value can take place.

Best way to gain rep. (at least from me)

It is a simple matter of nabbing a DM and asking us to RP your faction's boss for a general report. (not asking for a quest or items or the like but asking to RP your faction for a bit is really fun and easy for us to do on the fly)

            Good things come from this:

1- We get a chance to learn about your character.
2- You get to learn more about the faction and their goals.
3- You often get a little rep/xp for the RP
4- Sometimes it leads to assignments/quests (many of these can be done with out DMs)
5- Sometimes DMs like giving other rewards for moving stories along.
6- If we get inspired this can lead to events for your faction and even MORE rep!!

Basically everything Acorn just said. I can't tell you how much I enjoy running faction events compared to spinning something out of thin air.

                Agreed.

If you come to the DM team and say 'Hi! I'd like to try and do X for my faction, and this is how I'd like to try and do it...' you're onto a winner.

Monster-of-the-week stuff and randomly spun out events are fun, but nowhere near as fun as helping people work towards their aims and goals.

Good twist on the idea though
Buffers would also not get much rep in real life as the scantily clad buff warrior with the bloody sword and head of the gorgon in his grasp ... sort of the Rodney Dangerfield vs. Arnold Schwarzenegger effect.

Rodney Dangerfield was in fact a level 17 Cleric with Heal and Protection domains.... yep... bet ya never knew that about him. I rest my case.

If this were the case and the killing blow is going to get the rep, Then guess what my Cleric/FS/or Druid will do, wait till the "hero" gets his ass beat and not offer healing and buffs to him because if I get the killing blow I get the rep. Humanity will still take over, and I will always look after my own first! While I think that we need more ways to gain Rep DM Acorn has the right idea, Just ask!! Countless times I have just asked for interaction with a DM and they are usly happy to do somthing even if its not a hack and slash dungeon run.

Any way that is my opinion!!

Wish I'd known this earlier! Of course my faction (CdG) has (had?) an actual player as boss, so I always tried reporting to him. That's been pretty difficult for some time now.

The idea of calling on a DM never occurred to me.

Perhaps this info could be added into the advice thread for Character Requests.
                      Cheers,

Personally, I've always been of the opinion from the RP standpoint that Reputation should come from a combination of pools instead of simply choosing the method to earn it.

DM or Gold Donation or Banner Caps = Current method
DM + Gold Donation + Banner Caps = Possible method
