  • Question/Suggestion -- Every Faction have a capturable banner?

Is there a takeable banner for the Legion, Thayans, or Exigo etc... it'd be nice for us anarchists, sociopathes, tyrannists and whatnot to be able to claim some.

IMO all factions should have this.

There are a few logistical problems that I can see

One: Where do you put the banners?
Two: How do you set up the hostilities for the factions? The legion isn't automatically hostile toward BH members.
Three: You have to script the banners in such a manner that someone who is not viewed as hostile by its gaurdians cannot farm it

      1. Likely new area's would have to be made as it'd be pretty rough putting that banner in the middle of Sundren Military district or whatever. I know new area's are tough, but this is a suggestion thread

      2. I suppose it would have to come down to, every NPC faction has hostile PC factions. The Legion guards etc. would no longer allow BH and whoever else to just trapes around towns.... OR... you could set up a new factions for the NPCs, ie Legion2 faction in said new area from #1. Who are hostile to BH and whoever and are friendly to Legion and who ever and the friendlie's cannot take the banner.

      3. Ya know I never tried... but I am pretty sure I cannot harvest my own Necro banner from the crypts... so there must already be some sort of faction driven scripting going on.

      Good points, thanks.

        Point, Counter-point is fun...

Most BH members are not known and also most of them arent even known to be Banites/Myrkulites/Colibrites so it would in effect be the legionairres attacking some random person

I'm not trying to argue your suggestion into oblivion I just like to debate it makes me think

Eh, to respectfully disagree... I don't believe one faction would know all the other players of the enemy faction... while the enemy faction know's none of the members of the first said faction.

In fact, I don't really believe in auto hostile at all unless the auto-hostilers are hostile to EVERYONE that comes within range of them. Like URUK's or soemthing.

But it seems with the faction system as complicated as it already is, it wouldn't be possible to have an area be friendly at first until some PC action or some scripted circumstances caused it. Or would it?

I miss an old NWN1 server called um... Storm Nexus I believe.... all factions had forts. Alliances were scripted into the faction system. All factions had clear enemies and clear allies and we basically played ALOT of capture the flag. I am still trying to get used to the somewhat one-side system that is going on here. Meaning one side generally has banners to be taken and the other side does not.

It's a nice idea, but awkward to set in motion.

Attacking a Legion fort for example would probably require introducing a new Legion faction, that way portalling to the city or other Legion maps wouldn't result in everyone being hostile to you (and the general explotation and griefing that can follow).

Battlefield maps would be great, and they're somthing that's been fielded as an idea before, but with the current number of factions and sides we have, it would be impractical at best to have X vs Y for every group.

That, and as has been said, most of the factions who'd want to attack the Legion/Exigo groups are pretty secretive - Openly declaring war on them would probably result in your character quickly becoming KOS to everyone, and effectivly perma-dead shortly afterwards.
It is the greatest of all mistakes to do nothing because you can only do a little - Do what you can.

And it would be horribly skewed unless every faction was also given a teleport device to get them back to their HQ. As far as I know, only BH and Thayans have such (which I have always seen as being completely unfair to all the others...especially the Legion and Black Tax people with their long-ass walks to turn in banners).

Personally, I think just the opposite. No player factions should have a banner that can be taken for rep. I'd rather see more NPC-only factions and places set up with banners (an Argyle banner, anyone?). It's bad enough that you already have to set everyone to unsearchable to go train due to the majority of the higher leveling areas being part of some player faction or another and it sucks to get ganked after fighting through an army of NPC baddies right at the end by a high level PC.

              But that's just my opinion

I would like the banners so I do could what I used to do in WoW just for kicks in PvP. Every time I PvPed someone I used to put my faction or nation banner piked on their dead carcasses. Most of the time it was kinda funny because it look like I piked them up their butts, then proceeded to do an epic victory dance.

Don't worry, interfaction warfare will be coming to a Sunder near you in the future. We just have to setup some things to make it possible. I.E. All the amenities of a city needs to be available to every faction.
