I have enjoyed the wit of many of the conversation dialogues with NPC's, and applaud the creativity, however, it occuirred to me that many of the set PC reply responses do not necessarily fit with how some characters would respond.
e.g last night my barbarian said "whatever" as a reply to a NPC (it was the closest approximation to what my char would say).
I am not sure if they will get a re-work (huge job) but peraps for the writing of future npc dialogue or even future versions of the server, might i suggest that for PC's the responses are generalised / generic.
respond:
aloof: *appear disinterested*
haughtily: *belittle the person / idea*
aggressively: *responds in threatening manner*
diplomatically: *use all the tact and patience you can muster*
friendly: *act cordially*
catiously: *brooch each subject delicately*
insanely: *act unpredicatbly*)
in jest :*make some clever quip*
Once the tone is set, its just a matter of *ask more about x,y,z*
or continue to *respond in a x,y,z manner*
etc.
I do know some NPC's on the server have something like this, replete with skill checks. They are the way to go. I think a generic vs disinct voice for the PC adds to rp continuity.
If other PC's can overhear the conversation or response, it could be a good excuse for interaction (or avoidance) e.g. PC notices another PC be overly aggressive to a NPC - could be a reason to bump into them.
