*quickly, through elaborate mime and interpretive dance, explains that it's actually justified and cemented a fair amount in both lore, believable background and a distinct lack of epicness (pirouette) in that it might not have been a dragon at all and the decision of whether or not the entity in question was human or dragon is generally left to the audience and/or DM to decide (gesture of giant looming hands), with the draconic nature only being slightly implied in ways that could just as easily be human as they could be draconic, the extent of the implication of draconic nature basically is him having a funny beard and being old and powerful at magic (jazz hands), along with the fact that the character associated with said BFF actually is a Gold Dragon Disciple, (bodypopping) and therefore the presence of one and it's interest in her life in a minor capacity makes a certain amount of logical sense (does the robot)*
*then collapses exhausted from the intensity of such elaborate mime*Running across the mountains, attacking with an oversized scalpel, cometh Helga Great-Wyrm! And she gives a mighty bellow:
"Brace yourself, oh human speck of dust! You are made of meat and I am very hungry!"

As much as people hate and fear these stereotypes ... well, we don't have the numbers on Sundren to actually have to deal with them.Originally posted by Doubtful View PostPersonally I'd like people to get away from one of my personal bugbears - Characters with epic backgrounds. We've seen them all, from people with Gold-dragon-in-human-form lovers / BFFs, through to those who've commanded celestial armies or are the CG offspring of some evil demonic drow overlord and Drizzt's third cousin.
The few that exist are RP'd better than 75% of the rest of the 'unique' population.
Off the top of my head I cannot think of any PC who came into Sundren wielding an epic background.Originally posted by ThePaganKingSo, the roguethree bootlickers strike again.

All Myn was was a way to shut up suitors, a reason to be in Sundren at all, and some one to bounce her woe's off in the RP forum. He was about as epic as a mage with a purple Light spell, or a Green Fireball instead of a white or red one...nothing more than a special effect that had no real influence on anything. In her mind he was a just a powerful Eleven Druid... wait! He never took human forum you are talking about some one else. Never mind.Originally posted by Doubtful View PostGold-dragon-in-human-form lovers / BFFs

I just wanted to clarify this thread's original suggestion has nothing to do with any kind of elaborate pre-history or high-level background for a character. I think this is trailing a bit off-topic with that. Even an ECL race should start with a level-appropriate backstory.Player of:

The problem I see is anything suggested still relies on a small group of players or DMs moderating the approvals. There's really not a lot of difference, it could still be considered a popularity contest no matter how you slice it.
If we try to do any kind of formula relating to time that's meaningless because people could make three chars and sit in AFK for a few hours and suddenly it looks like they have a 'history' on the server. The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.

In all honesty, I'm actually quite happy with Tieflings, Genasi, and Drow being very rare and freakish.
I'd much rather get the custom appearance crafting in than have more drow and half-elementals running around (don't tell me that NWN2 Genasi are just planetouched... They have goddamn flaming heads for crying out loud. )Running across the mountains, attacking with an oversized scalpel, cometh Helga Great-Wyrm! And she gives a mighty bellow:

At least it would be a popularity contest on the merits of a person, their writing ability, and their character concept. As it stands, players (such as myself), can't even be denied, as we can't ask at all.
RPotM (as a way to allow people to place apps, not as a whole) is a broken system, because it denies a lot of players opportunities regardless of their merit or ability. Those who win deserve it, sure, but there are countless others who do not win that still deserve a chance to even apply for a character. An application is the same playing field for a player regardless if they spend a few hours a week or several days a week logged in; and with many of us as adults with commitments outside of the game, we simply can never compete with the hours those with more free time put in.
NWN2, sadly, is an old game with a shrinking playerbase. At this point, I doubt you would get the flood of applicants you may have had in the past.Player of:

I wonder... Can a person be RPoTM multiple months? if not, ok, but if so, it does seems like it'd take a lot more "campaigning" then it should to beat an incumbent RPoTM. There's just too many good RPers, it becomes more who you know than how good you are. I must say, I've only seen one or two people who didn't RP well on the server, and while I won't say names, they looked new and had simple problems like reacting to OOC chatter in IC, not slashing or bracketing their OOC, etc., nothing that couldn't be fixed with a bit of effort.
EDIT: Nix that first question, just reviewed the RPoTM thing and saw the once per year limit. Still, seems like one of these reward races to one player a month is crazy restrictive, considering how slow things are now.
