  • Summon Shadow (shadowdancer/death domain)

Any chance these could be improved to make them a little less than useless? Not sure if these abilities are hardcoded or not, Im guessing something would have been done about them already if it was possible

n.b. In PnP the shadow gains +2 HD every three levels (class or character, not sure on that.)

Lots of hp, but about 10AC and no abilities scores worth mentioning. I dont think the shadowdancer's one ever gets better. Since its supposed to be the shadowdancer's actual shadow animated that seems kinda weird!

Perhaps it should be more along the line of glass doppleganger or something?

Lolgrownups. I wouldn't mind seeing this improved a bit, but it's really up to the devs

Though somewhat unimpressive, I wouldn't do too much to buff the death domain's 'pet'. It can still do semi-well with the cleric who summoned them putting a buff or two in place.

The Shadowdancer on the other hand... A powerful 'double' of the player character sounds like a fantastic 'theme' for the class. While I wouldn't call the prc 'weak' necessarily (monk/shadowdancers and ranger/shadowdancers I've seen used effectively), giving something like a strong summon would give a deeper reason to invest beyond lvl 4 in this class.

I think many would agree though that this shadow should only reach a strong standing with far more than a 4 level investment into the prc.

Could always make them PnP Shadows. Melee touch attack, 1d6 strength damage.

With what I understand the shadow only gets better with significant investment (i.e. devoting yourself purely to shadowdancer). This sounds like a good idea though, I remember how annoying those things were when you had to fight the Desther in NWN's OC.

The shadow dancer may not get too much of a buff due to the issue that if the shadow can tank too well the shadow dancer can Hips DPS quite easily which was a major issue with the class in NWN1.

Death Domain in P&P gets a death touch.

Granted Power: You may use a death touch once per day. Your death touch is a supernatural ability that produces a death effect. You must succeed on a melee touch attack against a living creature (using the rules for touch spells). When you touch, roll 1d6 per cleric level you possess. If the total at least equals the creature’s current hit points, it dies (no save).

I see no reason we can't follow P&P on this instead of summoning a shadow.
