  • Concerning EK Feat Requirements

I just have one suggestion concerning one of the feats...I'm ok with EK taking four or even five feats but I think said feats should be usefull for any type of EK build...not just your standard Wiz 10/EK 10...or the builds using EK or Duelist for the extra AC

My bone I have chosen to pick is with CE (Combat Expertise)

and I think it should be replaced with Skill Focus Concentration...leaving the Ek not getting any bonus feats...just the High Progression

CE can be activated before casting spells for a free net defense with 0 spell failure? I would argue that its very useful for the EK.

Infact many would go the step further for the ICE for a +6 boost in AC that sticks with anything

The issue is not all Ek builds are INT based. INT lvl is a requirement for Combat expertise. and forces a Sorceror EK to weaken his primary attributes to supplement the INT req.

I think requiring an EK to be intelligent is not over stepping. Instead you propose to drop a feat so you can min max your attributes? You should be intelligent if you are traveling two very opposed paths.

The feats I think are silly are the armor proficiency feats. What if your EK does not wear armor? There are far more builds I can see that don"t use armor but would love to use combat expertise to boost their AC.

I'm pretty sure that there aren't any armor feats required but any Eldritch Knight in Sundren who doesn't wear armor is just plain doing it wrong. What I don't understand is why it requires the Still Spell feat when it doesn't require any proficiency with armor. It just seems odd to me. Why learn how to cast spells in armor if you've never learned how to wear it in the first place?

The feats are fine with that one exception. A different feat requirement would probably be a better deterrent to playing one than Still Spell. Still Spell inconveniences only Eldritch Knights who choose to forgo wearing armor. It's actually a pretty good idea for the ones who take a level in some other class that gets armor proficiencies. Even if proficiency with armor isn't a listed requirement it's almost an unwritten one considering the feat requirement of Still Spell.

I'd replace Still Spell with something else. Perhaps Spell Girding. It's a good choice because it keeps your spells up against dispellers, it's Sundren specific and it's something that a lot of people wouldn't generally consider. Also, it's not useless for Eldritch Knights who don't wear armor.

          Requirements

To qualify to become an Eldritch Knight, a character must fulfill all the following criteria.

          * Skills: Knowledge Arcana: 8 ranks.
          * Feats: Weapon Proficiency (Martial), Combat Casting, Combat Expertise, Still Spell
          * Spellcasting: Able to cast 3rd-level arcane spells

            Dead horse topic.

The pre-reqs have been discussed and rediscussed many times before as some of you well know.

...any Eldritch Knight in Sundren who doesn't wear armor is just plain doing it wrong.
Tell that to Machiavelli, his EK would likely wipe the floor with most of the server.

              Anyway.
10 levels of EK compared to a straight wizard.

Lose: 2 Wizard bonus feats, 1 level of spell progression, have to either burn a feat to get martial focus or multiclass and lose another level of spell progression. Your remaining feats require you to divide your selection between martial skill (Combat expertise) and spell casting skill (Still spell) -- you aren't going to end up with super DCs or have a great shot at bypassing Spell Resistance as you've got few feats left for Spell Penetration and Spell focus. You'll need to burn a feat to take combat casting which is a less than stellar choice. Also to get the full benefit of your level scaling spells (GMW and so on) you'll ALSO need to burn a feat to take practiced caster.

Gain: +5 BAB, Skill Focus Concentration

Doesn't seem that far off balance.
