I have the rod craft feat on a PC of mine, and have attempted to make wands, only to find their costs to be astronomically high. A wand of Animate dead ((a level 3 spell)) costs 26.5k to create. A wand of death ward is 13k. As well as the need for any user to either be a Cleric/FS who could already cast them, or a person with ((from what I have heard)) a very high UMD skill not obtainable until the very late levels.
This is something that could greatly help some of the Melee classes if it were much cheaper to create these items, as well as giving them a greater chance of being useful to them. That could be done by adjusting some of the caster levels of the spells to be slightly higher, the requirements to use them changed((perhaps a use wand feat, or a reduced UMD req)), and lastly to adjust the cost of creation to be much lower so people can afford to create and sell these wands to adventurers. A wand of 'Hammer of the Gods' costs 40,000 gold to create, which in this setting is hardly useful..
Having wands readily available to non-caster classes would help them to be more independent and create another avenue of business for any PC that may take this feat. I would greatly appreciate if this issue could be looked at, and I welcome any input as well.
