They also get a free shot at you (via Attack of Opportunity) which, along with the normal attacks they are throwing your way, can break your focus when trying to use Etheral Jaunt, cancelling the spell and leaving you a sitting duck.

I've seen this happen mostly with rogues and with F. Berserker builds, the latter of which (if well made, played, and armed) can fight a cleric or wizard even AFTER they've buffed.

However, my experiences are not your own. It's easy to see how this spell can be abused. So many likely have their finger hovering over the button to cast the spell the SECOND they are set to hostile. Much of it comes down to luck.

Personally, I would not say it's an auto "I-win", but it would be nice if Obsidian thought the spell through a bit better (along with a dozen others. *cough*Bigby'sStoneBodyIronBodyDivinePower*cough*) or just didn't include the spell at all.
Wish spell?! What is this? ****ing Dragonball Z?!

I see tons of suggestions for spells, especially lately, and it all comes back to the same thing with Implosion, DnD was never meant to be balanced. It's certainly not the staff's intention to try to balance anything either...

There may be exceptions to the above but if we were worried about class/feat balance that much we wouldn't ever get anything else done.
The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.

If only that were the way NWN2 worked.

If someone casts a spell and you click them to attack as soon as you notice, chances are you'll stand there and wait until the next round, when it will be too late.
Running across the mountains, attacking with an oversized scalpel, cometh Helga Great-Wyrm! And she gives a mighty bellow:
"Brace yourself, oh human speck of dust! You are made of meat and I am very hungry!"

The Zone of Revelation spellsays it cancels out etherealness, does this actually work in game?

I don't think you would be faulted if somebody went ethereal and started buffing and you just went elsewhere.

If you're searching the lines for a point
          Well, you've probably missed it

Of course you are. Running awa. . . er. . . swiftly retreating is a very valid and important option. It seems as if it's often overlooked.

No it does not. No DC rolls or anything. I could have been testing it wrong, but I seriously doubt it.

I was talking about situations where you start off attacking BEFORE they cast the spell. If they know you likely to go hostile, you may not get the chance of course (unless you stealth 'em)

As for things being 'balanced' in NWN2, I think the lack thereof is a very very BAD thing, which only makes me hope they make a game with 4th edition rules soon. However, the lack of balance regarding spells, builds, etc is in NO way Sundren's fault. I point the finger entirely at Obsidian.

Of course, until I make my own game that sells half a million copies, I can't say too much without being forced to insert my foot into my mouth.
