  • Quick-hostile button

On my last server, there was a quick hostile-toggle button that would make the highlighted character hostile. It was much faster than trying to find the character name in a list that will jump to the top when someone logs in/out, and isn't even in alphabetical order. It also allowed me to react immediately to someone performing a hostile action without any delay, a necessary tool for a non-caster against a caster.

I'm not trying to make a "BG is better than Sundren" comparison (I'm playing here, aren't I ), but that button made my life soooo much easier, and I imagine the majority of other players would appreciate a button to toggle hostility.

    If there's already a button/command and I missed it, I apologize profusely.

I think this is a good idea, and if there is a button already, I also don't know it

It's a nice idea, as long as it works both ways, so you can quick un-hostile someone too ...

And since you're a Red Blade Lan, you wouldn't know about anything anyway... * snickers and runs away in glee *

        Sounds good to me.

The other day someone started PvP with me and I was like "WTF?!!" and I'm sure they got at least 2 rounds of attacks before I found them in the list of 15 players and set them to hostile.

I would also like to point out that people can often have very similar names and you can easily set the wrong person to hostile in your haste.

EDIT: then again, if people sent a warning by Tell at least 20-30 seconds before initiating combat like they should then it wouldn't be an issue. IC warnings are all well and good, but how do you tell "trash talk" from a PvP warning??

That is a good point sometimes some people will put up with a lot of crap (PCs and characters alike) before they decide to go hostile, and others might go hostile at the drop of a hat (like calling you a name).

I like the button idea - though, if someone hostiles you, you should automatically hostile them.

The ooc warning tempts too many people to fire up their buffs. The server is already too unbalanced towards casters as it is.

              There, fixed that.

Right! One person setting the other hostile should set them hostile to you as well! Hostile is a two-way street.

If a PC initiates combat WITHOUT setting you hostile (you'll get the 'XXX dislikes you' warning in your server info box) then let the DM team know that this is happening (screenshots if you can please, preferably with your mouse over them)

Failure to set someone hostile and attacking them is considered abusing the engine, and is punished fiercely.

Apart from that, a hostile button does sound handy.

Too true. But the rest system and the low magic setting definately exhasperate that imbalance. But I'm not really complaining. After all, this is where I choose to play, right?

You can't tell, which I like. I don't think there should be a giant neon line delineating being snarky to the wrong person and enterring blood-shed territory. Basically, don't talk tough if you aren't willing to risk getting knifed.

I dont get to have much PVP now that i can actually beat someone up...and bad guys run from me (not the important ones, i still fear some of them).
As for the hostile thing i've been caught out by that on my old server more times than i can count, i never really minded because it made me paranoid of PC's that i didnt know.
Some one button hostile action would be good though.

Exactly! One of the funniest things that ever happened to my evil pc, was taking a stroll off the beaten path with undead summons. Ran into a smart ass, trash talking good guy who after bragging about who they were and how my pc and his minions were doomed, clicked the hostile button. My summons weren't much for RP and got right down to business. My pc never moved. The good guy got mad at me. Still makes me laugh when I think of it. Moral of the story is think about what might happen when you click hostile.
