  • Gaining some abilities from shapechanged forms?

Hi I was wondering if it would be possible or justified for say a charactor in a shapeshifted form via spell of feat to gain the increased senses of his new form? Say low light vision for some animals? Or maybe the scent feat for certain animal or creature forms? Just asking .

I tend to allow for extra sharp senses though modified rolls in RP. (including penalties as well - no diplomatic approaches when you are a Dire Bear with bones still stuck between your teeth!)

Engine-Wise, I'm not sure how much work that would be to implement. We have a LOT of forms with a lot of different abilities/skill boosts. I believe the MOMF actually do get a few feats from their shapes through a custom UI. I seem to recall that temporary granting of feats is not easy to implement.

hmm i wonder if it would be possible to add the scent feat to some monsters? that might make things a little harder for some sneaky types?

haha though if dwarves ever gain the ability to sleep with no penalties in fullarmour they should get a penalty where everything on the map with a sense of smell knows where they are, lol. Imagine what you would smell like if you slept in your american football gear? im sure plate armour would be even worse!!

Edit: I rescind my primary reply on such, as I honestly had completely forgotten how NWN2 implemented Scent into the game, as you can't directly detect them, but they only show up on your radar alone.

Considering how limited that ability to detect others is, I suppose I don't find this all that game breaking, in the end, especially considering that they're only able to use it while in certain forms.

Hmmm i guess but it would be good for rp no? knowing that someone is there but hiding or invisable. Also you might be able to target the rough area they are in with a AOE say a spell that slows movement then some damaging ones. And if you are in a form that has speech i suppose you could challege them. Or tell your other party members that someone is watching you. And if you cannot speak in that form you could shift back and then inform them.

Polymorph, including wildshape, passes on NO extra abilities to the player - Giving yourself extra skills and so on could be considered a form of metagaming, and is frowned on as such.

The player merely gains the creatures shape (discernible via a few spells only) it's physical stats and natural attacks.

Extended/extra abilities are ONLY gained by those with the 'Extraordinary Wildshape' ability, this feat allows the character to be able to use some of the extraordinary abilities that a form may have (this does not include proper psionics, even for the Ex.wildshape user).

That's for ALL druids, mages and clerics who can shape change with whatever power commonly available power. The only characters who can use extraordinary wildshape, and gain the extraordinary shape abilities, are those with 7 or more levels in the MoMF class.
It is the greatest of all mistakes to do nothing because you can only do a little - Do what you can.

I dont believe that he's suggesting any form of metagaming at all here, merely asking if it were possible. Although I imagine getting those ability's when in a different form would be a bit much unless you had the 'Extraordinary Wildshape' ability....Mind you i dont really know much about druids or any other kind of caster apart from clerics because quite frankly i suck at playing mages and what not hehe.

Technically, Polymorph isn't supposed to give Trollish Regeneration, either, but it still does.

I was just asking, I didnt know how shapeshifting or polymorph really worked. It was more to the senses side of things, animals have a much higher sense of smell than human for example, i was just wondering if you changed into its form if you would gain some of that ability. Obviously you cannot, and my curiousity has been satisfied. Isnt it a good thing that I asked though?

No I think I gotta get all the d&d source books and read up on stuff myself. But i guess its better things get discused and ironed out here in the forums than in game.
