I have to say that I don't like PCs giving their characters abilities that they don't actually have. In a sense by doing this, you're giving your character Blindsight or Blindsense for free.

Special: A character can use Listen to notice the presence of an invisible creature (generally opposed by a Move Silently check). If the character beats the DC by 20 or more, he or she can pinpoint the location of the invisible creature, though it still maintains total concealment from the character (50% miss chance).
    http://www.d20srd.org/srd/epic/skills.htm

If you're blind, everything is invisible to you, so if you're going to say you're navigating around by your super hearing, you better have an epic level listen skill so that you're constantly rolling 20 points higher than the move silently of everything around you... and even then you're ignoring the 50% concealment that you should still be suffering.

Now if you want to play your character as helplessly blind until he buffs up his eyes with a blindsight spell or something similar that's better.... but you should still have penalties assigned to you when don't have those spells up.

There are some things I can understand people getting away with, and not trying to bring mechanics into the equation. After all, allowing people to have some freedom for proof of concept can allow for a broader allotment of characters.

But I think there is a certain point where it becomes ridiculous. I think it's reasonable to not ask for penalties for someone that has one eye blinded, for instance. Trying to figure out penalties for one eye could be overly cumbersome and simply more trouble than it's worth.

But if I'm RPing a character missing a whole arm, but still playing like nothing's amiss in combat, it's just sloppy and lazy. In fact, I'd like to think a DM would eventually catch wind of this and wave a finger, saying, "Uh-uh."

I actually had that idea a few months ago, and asked a DM if they could make some sort of item that acted like a shield, but had no bonuses. He said he could, if I was serious about making a one armed character, so I couldn't equip anything in the offhand.

The reality is, not every player is interested in playing on a level field, or interested in playing realistically. Some just like the idea of 'coolness,' and being entirely badass at the same time. Some people want to be The One, and just be a god.

This is, after all, why there are mechanics. To stop people from going over the top and doing silly stuff.

The only character of mine that uses a blindfold had blindfight as his human bonus feat... and he's a Paladin of Tyr who is guided by the power of his faith...

I wouldn't dream of using one without the blindfight feat or the blindsight spell, myself...
        Ethric Urmbrusk - Noble Dreadmaster
Fulk of Helmsport - Faithful Soldier
        Cornelius Faustus - Scytheful Scribe
Komeigyu Shoon Ieyasu - Exarch's Samurai
Tahlatril Auvrealylth - Ace of Blades
        Elizabella Talmost - Sunite Sorceress
        Lucretia Valentine - Shadowy Seductress
Haraldir Ironshield - Fallen Dwarven Defender
Justin Cecilius - The Next Great Blind Paladin
        Hazlok Flass - Necromancer's Apprentice
Xander Magnus - Right Hand Enforcer
Zilabamuzale of Mezro - Guardian of Ubtao

Perhaps a cursed inventory token would be best for people who play blind characters, inflicting a permanent blindness, the same effect applied to the blindfold.

Blindfight allows you one re-roll against an invisible target or while blinded - Currently people do not have the blindness effect in place and therefore everything they fight doesn't have 50% concealment.

Blindfight doesn't negate all blindness effects and shouldn't be played as having that effect.

I've implemented blindness and mute before in NWN2. I used feats that apply the effect so it cannot be dispelled.

The problem is blindness is now bugged so people who are blind cannot take any action at all, instead of taking actions with penalties.

Therefore we will not be implementing true blindness until this is corrected.

Would a blindfold with True Seeing have the affect to see creatures? I know it is aimed at seeing invisible or otherwised concealed things, not including normal hiding and stealth, but would it have some kind of sight for the user?

Any chance you could make the screens of blind players dark except for in a five-foot radius around the character?
