It'd be neat if Paladins, beginning at level 5, received a summon that scaled with level like the Special Mount in PnP.

I think this is a good suggestion having played a paladin or two myself. Maybe the summon could be a horse summon that can fight for you? I've seen a dm summon a nightmare to beat up my paladin in the past. The paladin could have a similar summon to beat up bad guys.

Too bad there's no system in NWN for mounted Combat.

Suddenly we'd see a glut of Mounted Paladins running amok on Sundren.

Still though, the horse is an interesting idea. Oh, and it's not only DM's that can summon nightmares. Players can as well, provided you find the appropriate spell and feel that you are corrupt enough to tempt the spirits of the lower planes.... You can cast it if you're good, but there's always a consequence.

If you want to help out paladins, just give them magic vestment so they can atleast buff up their own armor and shield.

I actually think pallies (especially Sundren pallies) are pretty well-designed. The problem is they are not exactly an 'idiot-proof' class. Making a good pally is difficult not because of lack of ability but because of the complexity of the class itself. But with spells like Draconic Might and Holy Sword, they can be brutal with the right combo of feats, gaining killer AB and dispelling buffs with each swing of their blade.

And if that does not tickle your fancy, multi-class them. They are excellent when multi-classed (one of the best base classes for such imo), as long as you did not have a bard or barbarian in mind. Paladins can't sing anyway.

....and they can't play basketball either.

I sincerely have always thought Paladin/Bards had such great potential. I had the go-ahead to play one on a Ravenloft NWN1 server many years ago, and it worked out so fantastic.

Not that this is me saying the server should go that route. I know they like sticking to PnP. It's more of my disfavor with some of the alignment restrictions of D&D, and then even how the define the alignments. It makes it all terribly nonsensical sometimes.

Anyway, more cowbell. That's my vote.

Please! No alignment discussions! My mind couldn't take that.

I agree with the sentiments expressed here in general though - Paladins have an insane amount of RP potential. People do need to get passed the tired cookie cutter 'chap in shiny armour' shtick.

Where are the Green Knights, kicking ass, taking names in between espousing the virtues of a good crop rotation system and the importance of a large family?

Where are the Bat-Men of Hoar; roaming the streets at night and giving evil an absolute shoeing before dropping them off at the feet of Commissioner Greenwich?

Paladins don't need more spells, they need more thought.

                          And more cowbell.

I have to agree, the alignment restriction is fine. In fact, it's one of the best flavors of the paladin is the inner conflict that arises in them when law and good do not coincide.

I've been considering making a paladin based around Walker:Texas Ranger.

Of course he'd have to take an additional 30 levels of the Awesome PRC, and specialist weapon: Roundhouse Kick.
