I hate to start a thread on this but after weeding though the forums I have been unable to find any real info. If there is and I missed it please close this thread and direct me the appropriate place.

That said, I understand this is still in the works but it would be helpful for a player (including Vampire players) to understand the mechanics behind an attack so they can RP appropriately.

Elandra has been bitten twice. The first time nothing seem to work (or did and I made my saves) so I just played along as everything worked and she was helpless to do anything save for what he told her to do. This was fine but just to say “oh there is Clive and I have no protection, I will go along with his every request” does not add to the RP that much.

The second time things worked but I made “a will save”. With my first experience (nothing working) I went along not that I had a choice (follow was set for me – good feature!). The attack, well the drinking of my blood, was interrupted. After the “automated follow” was interrupted I ran screaming. After all said and done I was wondering what the save was for and what choices I had after making it.

As I noted earlier I know this is under development so I do not expect a “hard set rule” but these attacks are common and it would help if a player knew the sequence of events to that can tailor their RPing appropriately.

After making the save could I attempt to attack?

Should one continually attempt to get away/attack? (If the mechanics fail like they did in my first confrontation that would go against the RP scenario)

Can I talk? “Help me! I am under his spell!” or should as I played it.. “*without facial expressions she simply walks by with acknowledging your presence”. Do I say “//do a spot check with ? DC”

In PnP you always have a DM to tell you what your limitations are or address bad RPing. Not looking for a DM to follow Clive around to make sure players are doing the right thing. But if we had a guide to the mechanics we could then know when and what we can do.

I love the idea of Vampires! But without an idea of what to do the experiences could get hum drum and not the special “intimate moments you share with Clive” that they should be

Oh and after the attack, is it required to seek a cleric? I have no ill effects from the attacks. Was she infected? Does she now gravitate to his will? (If he is there seek him out)…

Not looking for a script but inspiration.

I think you're thinking of the Vampire Dominate ability. The best rules for this are found if you look up the Dominate spell. No, you can't cry for help while under its affect. When it wears off, you can.

Mara was attacked by Clive as well. Everything seemed to work out just fine. And as far as being infected or turned....you have to drink his blood to be turned...I asked All the rolls worked and we went with it and RPed it fine. I did end up with 1 hp and RPed that when I wandered into Aquor and found people there. It was cool had fun and just rolled with it.

I have a lot of fun RPing with it thus far. The question(s) stem from the will save I made. Not knowing what it was for. I realize that IC she would not know but OC if I knew what is was for I would know the constraints to RP under.

The mechanics allowed me to freely type and thus talk. Because it was set to auto-follow I assumed I was under his total control. That may not have been the case.

It is fun to RP falling into his clutches... it may also be fun to RP the one that got way.

Elandra has no spell (arcane or divine) abilities so I never have an any idea of how I should react to situations. If she was possessed by an evil soul and someone cast detect evil it it should flag, but it will not. Thus the "oh my goodness how can this be?" would never happen and some wonderful RP would be lost.

I am kind of left wondering if the mechanics let me attack him or yell out should I? Or just go into zombie mode (can get old) and start to RP afterward.

I hope this helps get my point a crossed.

Perhaps this is more of an adequate thing. I mean there are pages of how to PvP, or when/if you can run after killing someone…. I have not seen anything on this. I have had an OC talk with my assailant and he could not answer what the save was for, and he was the one causing it.

If no one knows, that is ok, I can just RP as I go (it has been fun). If someone does then help a player out.

            Thank you

Benefits of vampire PVP: they must be alive for you to feed!

Can you confirm that you combat log said Vampire Bite and note Vampire Dominate?

There is a will save in vampire bite currently which is a bug.

The mechanics are supposed to be as follows. (Enemy is the vampire, Target is person being bitten).

                1. Target cannot be undead or construct (Need to add a couple more now that I think about it).
                2. Enemy must make a melee touch attack.
                3. Enemy must succeed a grapple check (Str and Dex are used depending on which is higher modifier. This requires a feat to use Dex in P&P, but I felt it a balancer).
                4. Target recieves 1d4 constitution loss.
                5. Enemy heals a five hitpoints.
                6. Target is paralyzed a round to simulate being grappled.
                7. If Target winds up with 0 constitution, a message pops up that they are sucked dry and are killed.

I believe the paralyze or the constitution loss (Or both) are forcing the roll of the save. This needs to be fixed so save roll doesn't pop up.

Also, just to point out that the vampire dominate ability is identical in almost every way to the dominate spell, but is purely a gaze attack. It has no movements, no words, and it's impossible for anyone to tell that the vampire is using this ability. Only the vampire himself and the victim would know anything had happened.

does that mean that you need to see the vamps eyes in order for it to go off?

As far as I'm aware, yes (I could be wrong though).

I forsee a rash of blindfolded PCs stumbling around and falling on their own weapons.

Infravision used a different spectrum of light so eyes may not be detected as they would normally. How do glassed effect the gaze of the vampire then? What if your prescription is old? How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

Infravision is an extended spectrum, (12-bit eyes, compared to the normal 8-bit), not a different spectrum.

Glass painted black and nailed in place, or used to gouge out your own eyes prior to the encounter, can negate the ability for a vampire to gaze-attack you, although it may have some side effects.

Depends on how much your prescription has changed.

I supose marital status of "true" would increase production, decrease efficacy and generally change the direction in which the wood is chucked.
