  • Changing Appearance and Factions

So - these requests don't have anything to do with each other; however, I put them in one post.

    1. Please allow us to change the appearance of clothing (for a price in gold - just like the popular server Baldur's Gate but I think it should cost a little more) due to these following reasons:
-It allows for a lot of creativity.
-Creates variability between characters and clothing.
-Allows for one to truly portray/further rp oneself

    2. Maybe I just don't know how to do this but can we openly see which factions/guilds have a forum as I would like to join one but do not know if it exists.

    Thanks!

All factions have a forum. You join them after joining the faction. They are private and not visible until then.

As for item modifications, it's on hold for now. We had it in once, but the system was broken and allowed items to become duplicated. We may insert something down the road, but we have other initiatives higher on the project list right now.

Also there's no way to craft appearances in the game by default. It's not something we can just make ourselves, this is a hardcoded piece of the game.

Just in case you weren't aware yet (I see you are a new poster)

There's a bit of global info on existing factions on the wiki: http://www.sundren.org/wiki/index.php?title=Factions

Also, you may not be able to modify appearance of existing pieces of equipment but many crafted items can have their appearance tuned at creation (although different colours require manufactured dyes). This was actually decided to be a crafting perk, while at the same time maintaining the 'identity' of items and avoiding strange and unrealistic modifications. Your Shadowsilk Vest just wouldn't be the same if you made it white (sorry to Altair wannabes )

And Catarina would be unemployed if everyone gets to be able to custom their own clothes. I'll want my tailoring skill points back!!! :P

In fact, the basic item crafting skills would be useless if people were allowed to custom item appearance freely. You'll just buy the basic item in a store, customize it the way you like and then enhance it with magic arms/armour feat and inchantations.
All woodcutters, tailors, leatherworkers and smiths would be unemployed.

I like the crafting system the way it is. If someone wants an item with customized appearance, they'll need to find the right people to craft it. Much more fun and much more RP interaction this way. And much more realism, of course...

I think Viktoroso is talking about selecting (for a pirce in gold) the clothing styles that are available. Like walking into a store, picking out what you want in your size, paying for it and it's yours.

It only lets you choose what's available. No custom colors, styles, etc.

              Factions

In terms of the factions, I realize there was a list on wikia but I feel like it was under represented (specifically I was looking for the Sunite faction and couldn't find it; it also makes it difficult to not have a private group available in order to apply for membership). I just think it would make it easier to find such groups if they were private but visible to the community.

There is currently no Sunite faction, the temple was just put in a few days ago. There are a lot of factions "missing" that people would like in, but that's not priority.

We are currently working on our many existing factions and getting them fully completed before we decide to even consider anymore factions at this point in time.

There will be join quests for each faction and you will just have to find them in-game.Some are already in-game and the rest are soon to follow.

Once you join a certain faction, just let a staff member know that you need access to your faction's forum threads.

First off, good to see you back dragon..

I know exactly what he means by the appearance changer. It is just the basic one that alot of servers use,not the complex one we had at one point, where you can customize the entire look, from bracers to knee pads.

He is talking about the variation changer..Like if you buy a full plate, you can then select a numerous amount of full plate variations. It is the same with clothing.

Honestly,I like the system we have just fine, other than a few minor details..We have people who take time to put skills into smithing, tailoring, seamtressing, and etc.It is tons more realistic this way and promotes a growth in RP and the economy.

I understand your point, but what if we made it so that you can go to a smithy, pay a few hundred or even a thousand coin and change the appearance as to how you see fit, then that would create competition.

btw, which profession can change an appearance of an item and how do you do it?

You can not change one. Changing appearances is a reward for winning roleplayer of the month and that's the only way unless you're some sort of dungeon master.
...But on crafting you can set appearance.

Basically, if you are a tailor/leatherworker, you can make custom appearance clothing and leather armour. An armoursmith can make custom appearance metal armours and shields, etc.

But you can't modify it once it's been made, for aforementioned reasons.

I thought people COULD change item appearances already. I must have missed something.

My only problem is that you can't use dyes on existing armors (as far as I have been able to figure out anyway). But I think that is more a nwn2 thing than a server thing, so I got over it. Just found it funny my Red Blade was wearing blue for the longest time and my Thayan Knight is wearing a white chain shirt :P

But I got no problems with getting stuff crafted (after I recover from the last big ticket item I picked up...Ursus needs some welfare now). It would be nice to be able to add some of the skill bonuses to crafted stuff like the found ones, though. I'll miss my Intimidate bonus from my current armor.
