  • Flag Capture Suggestions

I know the system is just being rolled out, but I think this could be a lot of fun so I'd like to start a suggestion thread proper to make it even more enjoyable. I play a lot of TF2, so some of these ideas are nicked from that game.

    1. Disallow teleporting while carrying the flag, otherwise one could just nick a flag and then head off to Aquor, or the Citadel, before the 'defenders' even realize what's happening.
    2. Mark the flagbearer in some way, maybe a server shout and/or an effect applied (or something like this). The only alternative I see is for people to regularly guard their lairs, which would be a real drag.
    3. Only allow a flag to be captured if there are a minimum number of players on the servers, maybe 10 or 12. Otherwise people could just grind the flags if no one of the opposing faction is online to stop them.

Guys, please go in and try the system out before posting. I'll update the news thread to explain them again -- I'm not sure how clear it is. But I'm not sure you've given the system a whirl yet in-game, based on your suggestions here.

These banners have nothing to do with faction v. faction. These particular banners are in hostile territory, like the Stonegarb ogres and Bloodmaim orcs. I can't imagine the Black Hand would care about having the Church of Helm destroy some ogres.

Your suggestions are good for when we roll out defendable faction territory. It WILL come, and we definitely are thinking of things like you're posting. But this particular banner system won't benefit from your suggestions.

My experience so far has just been with a Banite going after the Veritas banner, which is why I was thinking faction v. faction.

I just got overexcited at the prospect of mixing two of my favorite games (DnD + TF2) and posted a tad bit earlier than I should have.

No worries dude! We definitely WILL be implementing something with defendable locations and pitting factions against each other. It's just a larger project -- coming soon to a theater near you!
