  • Monastery faction

I've noticed an increased amount of monks around and was wondering if it's possible to eventually have a faction or subfaction or something for the monastery at Sestra.

    Thoughts?

perhaps now would be a good time to revive the godhand monks?

It's a possibility but we're heavily focused on the core gameplay of our main factions right now. Understand that we have had people interested in these things before and no one kept it going.

Players get impulses to make new chars and naturally want a faction for them. It's likely to happen eventually... but not in the near future.

You can feel free to be just a generic monk of the order there if you wish or draw upon some of your own history.
The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.

Guess Umogian will just stay a solo monk of his order for now.

The only benefit a faction like that would bring is items, really... And there's always items to be had elsewhere. :P

The availability for monk based items outside of a faction is near non-existent..Even some of the factions do not support monks..

Eventually and possibly there will be a monk based faction...Hopefully,we can lump the samurai in there with them, but I do not see this happening for awhile, considering that we are trying to get the factions which are already established completely finished and polished up...Like big boss already stated.

            Just hang in there..

Wisdom amulets are obtainable, so are damage gloves and you can get magical robes.
That said, you won't find much great items from the other factions eitehr and they are devilishly expensive at best. Just look at the crap that's in the Triumvirate or the Hands, +1 int robes for 8k or so? Not good at all.
1d4 versus evil on a weapon? Just get an infusion. Besides, there are too many monastic orders for them to fit under one ceiling.

More items and different prices become available as your reputation with a faction grow, although as Zub mentioned there are already a selection of monk style items to be had from around the various stores - Having infusions and enchantments added to player crafted items is also a great option, support your local crafter!

As for the Sestran Monks of the Order of the Mind's Eye, while they certainly are monks, they may not suit every type of monk - It's a very broad class and having one sole monk faction would be forced.
It is the greatest of all mistakes to do nothing because you can only do a little - Do what you can.

Far as regular stores go...You will only find non-armor based clothing at +1 ac and monk gloves at +1 and 1 elemental damage(sonic and cold).Faction stores such as the Arbiter's Alliance and the Cartel(still have no idea where their faction store is)provide some monk based stuff for AC and Dmg/AB.

Or you can go the crafting route...Getting AC on cloth won't be hard to obtain..Now monk gloves may be a different story and a little harder to come by...Engage into some RP and make some inquiries about what you seek.

A monk faction would definitely have to support all alignments in some sort of way here on Sundren..

Hahah, those Sestra monks have changed so many times over the years. Usually when monks become Flavor of the Month, a faction raises, then players lose interest so the Devs do too.

God Hand -> Sun-soul -> Order of the Mind's Eye

I'd love to see monks follow an already established organization in Faerun. That way they can fit into lore better and possibly an existing faction. I'll post information on them in reply.

Well,it would have to be one that all alignments in the Lawful spectrum can join.

Before I get off topic: Monks are fast and stealthy, excellent scouts for the legion. Yellow Rose monks of Selune, and Ilmatter are probably decent lay healers as well (Triumverate?), Sune I do not know enough about. The Shinning Hand follow Azuth and should be open to working with the Hands of Mundas in several capacities besides being allowed to multi class as Wizards. The Hin fist are backed by almost every Hin Deitiy. Shar and Bane even have orders (see below).

There is a free appendix to the Faiths book, that lists Monk orders that are allowed to multi class and their patrons. (mostly covered by the list above but a few that are not Bane, and an Female Orcish order). It does not cover orders that are not allowed to multi class, but does say for both Paladins and Monks: Not belonging to an order means your not allowed to multi class.

There is also: (for Paladins and Clerics)

A list of paladin orders that allow for multi classing.

A chart of gems, colors, animals, etc that are sacred to specific deities.

I found this useful because not all deities have a Sundren Wiki page yet.

Come on all you Clerics, Monks and Paladins you KNOW you want to dress in your deities colors!
