  • A Faction for the Dieties of Fury

I think , in my own opinion that a faction should be implemented that is linked to the four deities of fury,Talos,Auril,Umberlee, and Malar. That is, not a faction for each ,but a faction that unites them all under a single banner.Any thoughts?

I think there are a lot of factions that are potentially awesome. Seriously. But the biggest thing to consider is: Is it feasible within the confines and context of the server?

To clarify, is there enough demand from the players for it, and are there enough DMs that are willing to support that faction? From what I can perceive, resources are already kind of stretch thin as it is. There are already some factions that feel as if they don't get enough attention, both from players, and from DMs. I'm not talking about who's in the right, or in the wrong, or anything of the like.

I'm just saying, we already have a lot of factions. We've got the Black Hand, the Legion, the Red Blades, the Hands (who are barely touched by players, surprisingly), the Triumvirate, Helmites (who are also barely touched by players), Exigo (another group that a lot of players don't touch), the Druid Glade/Wardens, the Dark Advent (who apparently are going to get an overhaul soon, if not already, technically), the Veritas, the Kurz Cartel/Smugglers, and the Thayans.

To be honest, that is a lot of factions. This server tends to have about 20 players on at peak times (during the time I've been here). Which isn't a huge population, which makes it a little hard to populate all those factions consistantly. Which also means it's hard for the DM team to keep track of all of these factions, what plots are going on, what relationships PCs have with the NPCs of that faction, etc.

If I might suggest, hold off on implementing more factions in a mechanics sense. Nothing stops some players from grouping up together and making an 'impromptu' faction. The Wolf Tribe was a good example of this. It apparently didn't last forever, but the oppurtunity does exist for any of the players to do this, and then DMs can help when they're able to, by lieu of player requests.

I'd like to reiterate that I don't think a faction for the God of Destruction is a bad thing. I just think that adding anymore factions at all might be just a bit too much at this time, that's all.

I agree with all your points...Really it would be best to get what we have worked out , but nevertheless a faction that consists of four different deities gives it a great chance of success...Just like the Triumvirate has three gods which I know from experience and being around for awhile has flourished more than most others.

I don't know,it''s really just food for thought and I thought I would bring it up.Most characters that follow one of the furies would have really no place in any of the factions that we have. The closest thing for them is with the druids and rangers and the furies are pretty much evil so that wouldn't work out.

Perhaps one day we can see a faction like this.

Personally I have a character who would Love to join that faction, but it's pretty clear that supply would greatly exceed demand. CE is not an easy alignment to play. I think it would be awesome, but we would really need to see more people trying to play it. I haven't seen the Aurilites or Talosians on in any real numbers in a long time.

Worshippers of the Fury Gods already have a faction they are represented in (there's even an official subfaction for Aurilites in it), thus a new one doesn't need to be made...

There should be a pretty clear hint which faction accepts them

Note that not everyone in a faction (and not even everyone within a subfaction) has to agree on all of their fellows' methods. Common goals can lead to alliances of convenience, accepting lesser evils to battle greater ones, yadda yadda and so on and so forth.

yeah the cleavers (which has always been a player run faction) have had some pretty damn good times... so it can be done it just takes a lot of work, believe me.

Personally I really like the feel of player run factions. They certainly match supply and demand almost automatically.

I would also like to say that I agree with Red completely. There are factions, the wardens of the vale for example, that still need some help. They have a decent player base but need some things. like a place of their own, and not the invis/barkskin supermarket that is the glade. and a faction store... those with the feat guardian of the grove cannot even access the Keeper's store.

Solidify what we have first then move on. Just like an empire.

One thing to add... a faction for chaotic characters.... Do chaotic characters even make factions? Would they join one if there was one? Personally I just don't see it.

Adding more subfactions to existing factions has potential, but creating more factions likely won't happen. We had a faction consolidation not too long ago, in fact. We have a limited player base, and the more we spread them out, the less cooperation we'll see between PCs. 30 factions with 1 or 2 members each is less desirable than 10 factions with 5+ members each. But yes, the subfactions are there, and Talos worshippers could join the Druid Grove for example.

Also, keep in mind that more factions are tougher for DMs to support. Lore has to be created for any new factions, and intimate knowledge of the workings, relationships, ranks, and NPCs must be absorbed by the DM staff. It's just another reason to keep the list smaller.

I play mostly chaotic characters, and yes, it's very difficult to find a faction that fits them. The closest I could find would be Veritas, but they worship a lawful deity and are pretty zealous about doing so.

For Chaotic Good, there is really very little. I usually default to helping the druids with my chaotic characters, usually because their sense of balance finds use for damn near anything.

Veritas isn't limited to any deity. Good aligned characters COULD join them too, although the general government of Sundren doesn't give much reason.

Veritas takes in rebels in general, just like the Legion takes in any thug that can fight and follows orders.

Then there's the Cartel (not really good). And the Wardens for some (could be good), although that's about it.

Of course chaotic people join factions. If they didn't could there even be churches to chaotic gods? Could Elves even have elven factions considering their race is chaotic? Chaotic people doesn't mean choas in everything. They aren't epitome of disarray. Like minded individuals will often gather together regardless of their alignments. Even demons will form groups of themselves to help spread the abyss and they're considered chaos incarnate.

I would like to see the Subfactions of the Aurilites and Umberlians combined into a single Furies subfaction.

I have always played Furies worshippers, they are a lot of fun. But a Malarite, or Talosian is not going to join a subfaction devoted to one of the other furies. They all hate each other, but work together under a common banner (the gods themselves). Therefore, a single Furies subfaction would do more to unify characters, and less to spread them out.

I would VERY much like to see this happen, within the subfaction of The Furies, the players themselves could deem the directions of the faction. I know there is a great new Talosian out there, I play a druid of Umberlee, but they aren't going to play well together unless "forced" to. This would give some of us Furies players a reason to come together despite our chaotic ways.

Eh, sorry, just thought of more.

The current Auril and Umberlee factions already have a player base (I would assume) and history and whatnot set up. Combining them, and adding only a couple of things to make Talosians and Malarites included would really help out. I originally started with a Malarite here, but couldn't see how in the world I could get him to fit in where I wanted him to be, in the "Nature Center". This would fix that.

Bear in mind that the Wardens of the vale already has a more "fury" related subfaction - Nature's Wrath. This encompasses all of the more angry side of the natural deities.

Auril and Umberlee are 2 of the 4 deities of fury along with Talos and Malar. I honestly don't see why they shouldn't be merged with natures wrath. Are there truely enough people in those sub factions to have 3 of them? I don't remember very many events or characters that followed those deities. I'm not in any of those factions (though I do have a character that I can't figure out if she should go wrath or Aurilite), but it looks like those will be very small factions from the outside.

I was thinking about going an Aurilite after I saw the Cold Climb area ,which is my favorite area so far, but I thought I'd probably just end up being a loner hated by all and with no one else to adventure/event with. Good to know there's some others around, but where do they meet up and do evil dancing and drinking blood etc?!
