  • UI Overrides, requesting exemptions

hello, with the recent update i noticed all custom UIs are now disabled.

i am making a request that some exceptions be made.

for a wizard / bard have the following two UI modifications are, for me, crucial to play. one makes the spellbook smaller, one lets you have 5 row hotbars.

i totally appreciate all the work Sundren developers have put into this PW. i have had a blast here. i understand some overrides/haks/UIs are causing game crashing scripting problems that need to be addressed. on the other hand some elements should still be modifiable for a user to suit their playstyle or even disability/mobility issues.

is there any way to add exceptions (can someone look at the script) or is there any way to incorporate these into Sundren's actual code:

in all honestly i have been playing with these since their release, including on Sundren, and on other player worlds, and in official campaigns, and have not run into any problems (that i've been aware of).

both UIs have 9+ score on the vault, and make accessing the game for me, more fun, more enjoyable and physically easier. thanks for considering this!

Yes, these changes are general improvements that I agree with. We will likely have them become Sundren-approved and integrate it.

Is the multiple rows hotbar optional with that override? Can you set the number of rows/size of the thing yourself? I personally dislike having a thick bar with many tiny icons on my screen..

For a spellbook that's ok I guess, because you don't need to use it constantly.

both really add a lot of ease and enjoyment and immerision to the game, and cut down on scrolling and clicking incredibly!

Kaeldorn: answers: this hotbar is not custom-able (it's all or none). however, it can be dragged like any other window so you can drag it down screen and still have only 1 row showing, or two, or whatever you prefer visible. with one row showing it's nearly identical in appearance and size to standard hotbars.

there are few other hotbars UI i've tried, they make two rows, but since you can already turn on a second (Row 10) in the game options they don't really add a lot of flexibility.

more praise: the spellbook makes it so much easier, you can see all of your levels at the same time which really helps when going to a different area and you want to change up what's memorized, it's much easier to think about planning without having to scroll up and down. i know both of these are geared toward spellcasters, but hey, they deserve it! another plus, in some cases i will use minor items i find because i can get to them without searching or scrolling, you know those items you carry around and always think you'll use and can be RPed but never do. also useful for any spell casting class. even as non spellcaster one could find it useful (though maybe not fill it up)

        anyway thanks for consideration!

You don't need the bars for spellcasting if you use F But to each their own I guess, and it can be useful to put a few scrolls, potions and spare equipment and different garbs in. Though, having so many rows clamped together makes me dizzy and it doesn't look very stylish/clean especially on a 1920x1200 monitor (thick block in the middle of nowhere).

I'll look into modding it some to have a few modes the player can switch between when I get the time.

That would be cool if you could adjust it yourself!

I still use F to quickcast though and I find it pretty easy to use unless you have dozens of prepared metamagic spells

Ooh, I only just noticed this... I completely support this - playing any caster is a minefield of casting the right spell at the right time, and I like to have several pre-prepared lists on different hot-bars for different situations... But that's just from a crazy DM's point of view

hey hey Sundren, been away for a few months, came back few days ago, love the new areas and the immersion of walking around them. had some great adventures already (go Emerald and Das!)

i am renewing this request, with my 2nd toon here finally, a cleric, again not having the 5 row awesome hotbar is a really mess for me: makes the game frustrating and breaks immersion. my zoom wheel spins through all the 10 hotbars -- i can't get back to my weapon -- it's not just F for spells, but bandages and potions and also the very snazzy custom feats like total defense. having them all instantly clickable is so much more fun! the 5 row hotbar is still a top NWN2 download because it's so awesome! please please please consider adding code to allow users who have this installed to be able to use to it. also with lag not messing with switching hotbars is crucial as a healer. thanks for again considering this small tweak.
