  • AFK porting

While I do understand the reasoning that goes into sending people to the afk room after a certain amount of time, I would like to suggest that this is taken out. I was on the phone for a few minutes, came back and discovered that my game had crashed after trying to port into the afk area.

Again, I understand the reasoning behind it, but I feel as though this measure of control over my own screen is a little much. Perhaps enable something along the lines of the exp ticker, where the timer only runs if you're active?

Thank you devs and DM's for all the hard work that you put in, I really do appreciate it alongside my fellow Sundrites. But I do ask you take this into consideration.

I agree with Peridan, it might just fix the random AFK room teleports too.. not that I know what I'm talking about. :x

The AFK porting is actually triggered by the XP ticker.. But I put it in the wrong place, so it only took into account your chat. Which will be fixed in a couple of minutes. Good suggestion though

And yes, Onikukki. It's related. My bad. Sorry all for the inconvenience!

Yeah, the automatic porting is a good thing though folks. Ever witnessed someone fall asleep at the keyboard in a dangerous area?

No, I've never heard of someone falling asleep while playing NWN, atleast not in a dangerous zone. Anyways, we'll just wait for it to get fixed I guess. Thanks for getting to it so fast! =]

This afk porting thing is being put in place due to the new Exp cap rules right?

The fear is people who are not playing logging on and leaving their PC's unnattended for hours building up online time.

I have seen a system on another server to combat such practices and it involves food.

Personally I hated the requirement to eat or drink something every 8-12 in game hours but with cook as a profession on this server now I think a system that involves food could be a winner.

Your basic state is that after a certain amount of time e.g 8 in game hours you get a messege in the dice roll/combat roll screen, in yellow. It says your PC is hungry.

By about 12 in game hours if you haven't eaten something you get script coming from your PC emoting rumbling belly, making other PC's aware you are hungry and laughing at your foolishness (MWAHAHAHAA) By about 15 hours your stats become affected, a constitution point or something. THis gets progressively worse as more time goes on and after a good while you can pass unconcious or even die if saves are not made, (lol using your reduced fortitude save.)

The way it works you can buy some individual or stacks of 5 or 10 of lesser foods like biscuits or apples or whatever. This stuff is cheap, 1 gold a piece and also very light weight so as not to punish people with low strength for carrying food. One of these pieces of food will quench hunger and reset the timer.

Proffession cook comes in by cooks making proper meals, good hearty pies and rump steaks etc that fill you up for longer. If you pay a bit more and buy some of this decent food made by a cook you can stuff your chops before a DM quest or pertaking on an epic 3 hours session dungeon delving somewhere and not have to worry about the timer for a lot longer than usual.

To avoid exploitation of expensive food for use during inactivity, perhaps there could still be an inactivity timer that cancels it's effect if a PC sits motionless for too long.

I know, some of you hate it and all the Proffession cook people love it.

Does Kael and Saulus likes it though?

I thought you hated the simulationism aspect of the armor timer. Now, you want to add in food and the obligation to eat it, rather than roleplay it out?

                  I don't get you, Azulfae. ^_^;

I think food/drink was taken into consideration long before I became a dev, but that the idea was that the novelty of it would soon wear off and then it would only be annoying.

Personally, I'd have no problems with it. Or perhaps requiring food in order to rest, or something like that. I became sort of used to it in Everquest and actually like the idea.

There is, but only if you're not pressing buttons whilst snoring.

The downside of requiring food however is that an in game hour is no where near as long as a real-life hour, while roleplaying an hour or two down and Exigo your character will suddenly get hungry, then you eat. A few hours later you get hungry again. This would just get really disruptive and annoying.

However, when I played Star Wars: Galaxies they had an interesting take on cooking. Basically different foods would give you different buffs, maybe this could be used on Sundren. The buffs would last 24 IG hours or until rest. There could be plants and delicious beasts just waiting to be collected for the stew pot all over Sundren.

The buffs would be small, maybe as higher ranks are taken you could get better buffs, or reduce preperation time, or something.

                          +1 Saving throws
                          +1 AC
                          +1 ATK
                          +10 hit points

When you consider how spellcasters can buff themselves every rest, this doesn't seem so over the top, and would give people a few new roleplay avenues.

That's already the way it is planned to work *cough*

Suggestions of things as they're already being worked on make me grin
